This handbook is designed to help you get started with eThink by Open LMS, the official

learning management system for University of Cebu Senior High School and College.

LMS Procedures & Guidelines Handbook for Students includes detailed tutorials on how
students can perform simple yet essential synchronous and asynchronous activities.

The handbook is divided into three sections: Sections A, B, and C.

Section A contains the procedures in using the LMS. This includes tasks such as marking
your attendance, submitting an assignment, and taking a quiz. Section B deals with
procedures and some frequently asked questions about the use of ClassIn. Finally, Section
C shows important procedures in accessing KDES eBooks for SHS.

We hope that this handbook will encourage you to gain confidence in using the platform
and to explore the limitless possibilities of online learning.

What are the device requirements for ClassIn?

You can use ClassIn with any of the following devices:

• Windows PC or laptop
• Mac desktop computer or Macbook
• Android tablets and mobile phones
• iPhones

As a general reference, a table is provided below to identify the minimum requirements for devices to
support ClassIn.

Note: If your device is not supported by ClassIn, you can still attend synchronous sessions by means
of Live Broadcasting. This will be further explained in the FAQs of the handbook.

Ver. 1.0

Page | 22
Will ClassIn consume more mobile data compared to Zoom or Meet?

To get a better picture of how much data ClassIn consumes, let us take a look at the results of a real-
word based test comparison between ClassIn and two other major video conferencing platforms.

From Table 1 above, we can see that compared to Zoom and Meet, ClassIn consumes significantly
lower amount of mobile data (11.6 MB) in a 5-minute synchronous session with both microphone and
video turned on.

Take note that the test was conducted with two participants (1 teacher and 1 student) with microphone
and video turned on. For data extensive features such as screen sharing and playing of videos, expect a
larger amount of data consumption for all video conferencing platforms.

For more details on the test result, download the presentation here: bit.ly/classinvszoomvsmeet.

What account shall I use in ClassIn?
(For All Devices)
)
There is only one right account to be used for ClassIn and that is the institutional account.

Institutional Accounts are automatically generated by ClassIn and are assigned to LMS
users.

The only way to use this account is by entering a synchronous lesson from the ClassIn
shortcut inside the LMS.

Most students tend to have difficulties in entering ClassIn because they are using another
PROBLEM account that they created themselves.

Meaning, they ‘Signed-up’ directly in the ClassIn app and created their own accounts.

These types of accounts are called Free Accounts. When using a Free Account, you will
not be able to enter synchronous lessons by your instructors.

To ensure that you are using an Institutional Account, enter a synchronous lesson from
SOLUTION the LMS. You can do this by following the procedures on page 27 or page 29.

To check if you are using an Institutional Account a.k.a. ‘right account’, follow the
procedures on the following pages:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
(For All Devices)

Nothing happens after clicking ‘Enter’ in the ongoing ClassIn lesson inside the LMS.
FAQ #1
What to do?

Solution:
There are a number of possible reasons why you cannot enter a lesson in ClassIn inside
the LMS. Let’s take a look at some available solutions.

1. First, make sure that the device is compatible with ClassIn. Go to page 22 for a list
of ClassIn-supported devices.

• If your device is not supported, you may still be able to attend the class by
requesting for a Live Broadcast from your instructor. For more information
on Live Broadcast, check FAQ #6.

• If your device is supported, try to refresh the browser. You can do this by
clicking the refresh button beside the browser’s address bar. If this did not
help at all, go to the next step.

2. Next, let’s check if ClassIn is already open but with a different account logged in.
Follow the steps on page 34 of this handbook.

Then, proceed to the next step.

3. Enter a synchronous lesson again from the ClassIn shortcut inside the LMS and
use the checklist in Appendix A of this handbook.

If above solutions did not work, report to your instructor and/or inform directly the
campus tech support through their Facebook page.

FAQ #2 Why am I logged with a different mobile number?

Answer:
ClassIn automatically generates and assigns a unique account to your LMS account.

This account is your institutional account and is connected to your LMS. You will only be
able to enter a synchronous lesson if you use this account.

For more information about ClassIn Institutional Accounts, go to page 34.

FAQ #3 Why can’t I hear audio when having a synchronous lesson in ClassIn?

Answer:
Your speaker might be turned off. Make sure that your speaker is turned on.

Turn on/off your speaker by following the instructions in the following pages of this
handbook:
• For Desktop, Laptops, and Tablets – Page 49
• For Android mobile phones and tablets, iPhones, and iPads – Page 50

FAQ #4 Can I share my screen in ClassIn?

Answer:
Yes, you can. Go to page 67 for instructions.

Note: Only the instructor can start screen sharing.

Some devices may not support screen sharing. In this case, you can save the file
in the ClassIn Drive and ask for authorization from your instructor to present the
file saved in the Drive.

FAQ #5 The text on the blackboard is too tiny when using a mobile device. Is it possible to zoom
in?

Answer:
Yes, you can.

Similar to zooming in on an image in your phone photo gallery, you can zoom in the
classroom by pinching the blackboard with two fingers.

100% zoom (Normal view)

126% zoom (Zoomed in)

300% zoom (Maximum zoom)

The maximum possible zoom is up to 300%.

From 300%, you can return to normal zoom (100%) quickly by clicking the ‘collapse
button’.

FAQ #6 My device is not supported by ClassIn. Can I still attend our synchronous lesson?

Answer:
Yes, you can attend your synchronous lessons via Live Broadcast.

Live Broadcast is an online live stream that allows you to watch the synchronous lesson
using only your device’s browser. Aside from the class live stream, the chat box is also
available for you.

Request for a Live Broadcast from your instructor.

FAQ #7 I sometimes get disconnected from the Classroom. Is this a bug?

Answer:
Fortunately, that is not a bug.
Unfortunately, that could mean that you are paying attention to your lesson.

If students, those who are using mobile devices, open other apps such as Messenger,
Facebook, etc., and leave the classroom for more than 3 minutes straight, they will
automatically get kicked out from the classroom.

This is an indication that you are not listening to your discussion anymore, especially if
are so used to doing other online activities during synchronous lessons.
