7. Calculate the emf induced in a circuit having an inductance of 600µH if the
current through it varies at the rate of 400A/sec.

11.a).(i) Given point P(-2,6,3) and vector A = ya x + (x+z)ay. Evaluate A and at P in the
Cartesian cylindrical and spherical systems(7)
(ii)For a given vector field A, show explicitly that ; that is the
divergence of the curl of any vector field is zero.(6)

b)(i) Derive an expression for energy density in an electric field.(7)
(ii)Derive the stroke’s theorem and give any one application of the theorem in
electromagnetic fields.(6)
12.a). An air coaxial loop located transmission line has a solid inner conductor of
radius ‘a’ and very thin outer conductor of inner radius ‘b’. Determine the
inductance per unit length of the line.(13)

b)Determine the capacitance of a capacitance consisting of two parallel metal
plates 30 cm x 30 cm surface area, separated by 5 mm in air. What is the total
energy stored by the capacitor if the capacitor is charged to a potential difference
of 500 v and also find the energy density?(13)
13.a)Using the Biot-savart’ s law in H, find the magnetic field intensity at a point on
the axis of a circular loop of radius ‘ a’ carrying a current I. The point is at a distance
(on the Z axis ) from the center of the loop.(13)

b)A steady direct current I amps flows in a wire bent in the form of a square of side
a. Assuming that the Z axis passing through the center of the square is normal to
the plane of the square ,Find the magnetic field intensity H at any point on the

14.a).Derive the Maxwell’s equations in point and integral form from Faraday’s,
Ampere’s and Gauss law.(13)

16.a) A straight conductor of length l is oriented parallel to Y axis and moving along X
axis in the positive direction in a uniform stationary magnetic field with flux
density B which emerges out of the XY plane and perpendicular to it.If the linear
motion velocity is v m/s. What is the magnitude of e.m.f induced in the conductor?

1. Define Stoke’s theorem. Give an example of the application of the theorem in
field theory.
2. What is an electric dipole?
3. Write down Laplace’s and poisson’s equations.
4. What is the potential at point P due to two parallel line charges which are equal
and opposite?
5. What is the maximum torque on a square loop of 1000 turns in a field of uniform
flux density B=1Wb/m2 ? The loop has 10 cm sides and carries a current of 3 A?
6. Write the expression for magnetic field ‘H’ at the centre of a circular coil carrying of
T amperes. The radius of the coil is ‘a’ m.
7. Calculate the emf induced in a circuit having an inductance of 700µH if the current
through it varies at a rate of 5000A per second.
8. State Maxwell’s 1st and 2nd equation.
9. Compute the reflection and transmission coefficient of an electric field wave
travelling in air and incident normally on a boundary between air and a dielectric
having permittivity of 4.
10. Calculate the depth of penetration in copper at 10MHz, given the conductivity of
copper is 5.8x107 S/m and its permeability is 1.26 MH/m.

11. a)Transform the vector at p (x=+2,y=+3,z=4) to spherical
coordinates.(13)

b) Write short notes on the following:
(i) Gradient.(3)

12. a) Derive the electrostatic boundary conditions at the interface of two


dielectric media. If one of the medium is conductor, discuss the field
pattern.(13)

b) A circular ring of radius ‘a’ carries a uniform charge ‘λ’ C/m and is placed
on the xy-plane with axis the same as the z-axis. Determine the electric field
intensity E at a point P distant ‘h’ along the axis perpendicular to the plane
of the ring. What values of ‘h’ give the maximum value of E?(13)
13. a)(i)Derive an expression for the inductance per meter length of two
transmission lines(6)
(ii)Obtain the expression for energy stored in magnetic field and also
derive an expression for magnetic energy density(7)
(or)

b) (i) Derive and expression for self inductance of co-axial cable of inner
radius ‘a’ and outer radius ‘b’.(7)
(ii) A circular loop located on x 2 +y 2 =9, z=0 carries a direct current of 10 A
along a Ө. Determine H at (0, 0, 4) and (0, 0,-4).(6)
14. a)(i)Difference between field theory and circuit theory in an electrical

(ii)What is conduction and displacement current and derive the same.
Explain the need of displacement current in Maxwell’s equation.(7)

b) Define Faraday’s law. What are the different ways of emf generation?
Explain with the governing equation and suitable example for each.(13)
15. (i). Explain the propagation of waves in perfect dielectric.(7)
(ii) A uniform plane wave is traveling at a velocity of 2.5*105 m/s
having wavelength λ=0.25mm in a good conductors. Calculate the
frequency of wave and the conductivity of the medium.(6)

b) Define Poynting Theorem and derive the expression for the same.(13)
Part – C (1 * 15 = 15)
16. a) A rectangular T-turn coil with mean length l and width w is found on the
cylindrical drum. If the drum rotates in a uniform field with flux density B
everywhere in the position X- direction at a constant speed of N rpm, the axis
being alignment with Z axis develop an expression for induced e.m.f. in the coil.
