Minutes of the 27th Meeting of the Department of Human Resources Management, Faculty

of Management Studies, and The Open University of Sri Lanka held on 21 st September
2022 at 09.30am at the faculty board room.

22.1. Preliminaries
 The Chairperson welcomed all the staff members to the 27th meeting of the Department of
Human Resources Management.

22.2. Confirmation of the Minutes of the 26th Meeting


 The minutes of the 26th meeting of the Department of Human Resources Management
held on 18th August 2022 were confirmed.

22.3. Matters Arising from the Minutes


 The minutes of the 27th meeting of the Department of Human Resources Management,
held on 21st September 2022 were confirmed subject to the following change.
 Under the 22.6 Chairperson corrected the title introducing an Advance Certificate
in HRM Programme as Introducing an Advanced Certificate in HRM Programme.

22.4. Staff-Related Matters


 Chairperson introduced newly appointed Academic Coordinators of BMS Hons in HRM,
Mr. K.M.C. Chathuranga and MBA in HRM, Mr. V. Anujan to the staff.
 Mr. K.M.C. Chathuranga and Mr. V. Anujan introduced themselves to the staff.
 Further the Chairperson stated that recruitment processes for the Position of Lecturer (on
contract) and Senior Lecturer (G II) are currently in progress. Moreover, he stated that the
walking interviews for these position has been scheduled to be done on 28 th September
2022.

22.5. Update of Study Programmes

22.5.1 BMS/ Existing

Mrs. A Sumaiya reported the following,


 The Final Examination for BMS starts on the 1 st of October and ends on the 12 th of
November 2022.
 Exam dates for HRU4506, HRU6411 & HRU6412 are scheduled as follows,
 HRU4506 - 22nd of October 2022
 HRU6411 - 29th of October 2022
 HRU6412 - 06th of November 2022
 The printing and packing date details for the Final Examination papers are as follows,
 HRU4506 - 11th of October 2022
 HRU6411 - 17th of October 2022
 HRU6412 - 20th of October 2022
 The status of the preparation of the Final Examination papers are as follows,
 HRU4506 - Human Resource Management, Final Exam paper is already
completed. But the translation is in progress. This also can be completed within
the 4th week of September.

 HRU6411 - Motivation and Performance Appraisal Organizations, Final Exam
paper is in the process of completion. The setter of this paper is Mrs.
Sewwandi.
 HRU6412 - Human Resource Training and Development, Final Exam paper
also is in the process of completion. Mrs. Sumaiya and Ms. A.H.U. Perera are
working on this.
 In relation to the HRU6411 - Motivation and Performance Appraisal
Organizations, the chairperson stated that setting and the moderation of Final
Examination Papers of all the HRM-related subjects should be done under the
department of HRM.
 The Final Examination Memo is also prepared.
 Visiting Academics 2022/23 Budget preparation is in progress.
 Due to a prior approval issue, only 01 voucher is pending yet. Except that, all the other
voucher preparation are done.
 Mrs. S. Manoshika stated that the HRU3506 - Human Resource Management subject will
be introduced as a new course to the BMS Level 03.
 Moreover, the chairperson stated that we have to submit the proposal for the Advanced
Certificate in HRM programme at the next Senate.

22.5.2. BMS Hons in HRM


 Ms. A.H.U. Perera stated that in the preparation of Applications in relation to the BMS
Hons in HRM are totally completed. Also, the hard copies of that are already completed.
But when considering the soft copies, it needs to be amended with more annexures to
complete.

22.5.3. MBA in HRM


Mr. D.L.A. Bataduwa Arachchi, reported the current progress of the programme as
follows;

11th Intake
 The inauguration programme and orientation of the MBA in HRM programme were
successfully completed.
 Day schools for Year I Semester I also has been started.

10th Intake
 Day schools for Year I Semester II are in progress.
 The final examinations were scheduled to be held from 16th October 2022.

09th Intake
 The re-registration has been scheduled to be held on the 23rd and 24th of September 2022.
 Ms. S. Manoshika informed that the Workshop on Data Analysis has been scheduled to
be held on the 24th and 25th of September 2022.
 The deadline for the dissertation according to the schedule is 18th November 2022.

22.5.4. CEMBA / HRM Subject
 Prof. Sivalogathasan stated that the new batch of the CEMBA has been started.
Accordingly, day school series have to be conducted for the HRM subjects in CEMBA.

22.5.5. Short Course in HRM and HRM T&D


 Mrs. W.I.B. Weerakkuttige stated that the new reports had received from Ambalanthota,
Kaluthara, Colombo, Kandy, Polonnaruwa and Bandarawela centres. Out of these,
Ambalanthota and Kaluthara reports had been evaluated and sent to the relevant centres.
Rest are in the process of evaluation.
 The 23rd batch of the Gampaha Regional Centre was not able to attach the company
confirmation letter to their reports. This has been already informed to the A/D of
Gampaha Regional Centre. Here, the chairperson stated that he said to the AD of the
Gampaha Regional Centre to resubmit those reports again as a genuine report with
confirmation letters within one month.
 Further, Mrs. S. Manoshika stated that the awareness session regarding the Short Course
in HRM has been scheduled to be held via Zoom on 23rd of September 2022 at 7.00 P.M.

22.6. Introducing an Advanced Certificate in HRM Programme


 Ms. A.H.U. Perera stated that as per the suggestion received from the last faculty board
meeting, a new course was introduced. It was “Decision Making Tools of HRM”.
 Further, she said that she is in corporation with the synopsis development based on the
suggestions made by Ms. Jayani. And finally, she stated that Mr. Mr. W.A.
Senavirathne is working on the budgeting for HRM aspects.

22.7. Progress Review of the Research in the Department


 Ms. A.H.U. Perera stated that she was able to publish her MBA thesis as an empirical
study in the PIM Publication Division - Sri Lanka Journal of Management Studies.

22.8. Progress of Course Development


 Ms. S. Manoshika stated that session writing of the HR Ethics subject needs to be
finalized, and the Personality development subject is already finalized. In addition to
those two subjects, only the revisions of the HRM subject have to be done.
 The chairperson stated that we have to conduct a workshop on “Curriculum Course
Development”. Further, he stated that we must invite resource persons who wish to
contribute to the course development workshop.
 Furthermore, the chairperson stated that all the lecturers must be focused and contribute
to the lesson writing.

22.9. Any Other Business


 Mr. K.P.J.M. Pathirana stated that as per the guidance received from Mr. Nalin
Abeysekera (Dean of the faculty), he was advised to form an Alumni for the BMS

graduates. Hence, he formed a WhatsApp group on the same date. Currently, there were
73 members in the WhatsApp group. Moreover, Mr. K.P.J.M. Pathirana stated that he
hopes to form a committee to draft a constitution as well.
 In addition to the formal communication mediums such as e-mails, Prof. Sivalogathasan
proposed to form WhatsApp groups for the each subjects of the HRM Department
(HRU4506, HRU6411 & HRU6412) in order to coordinate and share all the messages
and information with regards to the academic matters.
