Lesson 18B – Head late base

The “late base” of the head matches a collapse of Kamiya’s crease pattern. All folders who have
added shaping details past this point have done so through reference photographs and no other
help from the creator.

There’s still plenty of work to be done, but the late base is a good stopping point when working
on the real 3.5 if you want to work on other parts.

This lesson is not difficult, but be careful to match your model’s orientation along with the
photographs – otherwise, you may fold over too many or not enough flaps and work on the
wrong point.

There are many open sinks. You are free to readjust layers in order to perform the sinks, just be
sure to put them back in place before moving on.

A head from kraft paper will become very thick during this lesson, but don’t worry. The layers
will either become shaped parts, or will have the option of being glued flat at the end of shaping.
Fine papers like washi, unryu, mulberry with MC added can make excellent heads without any
thickness problems. Double tissue also works well, but it can be difficult to make such a large
sheet.
