NOTICE

After you participated or assisted in using resources/instructional materials in teaching/learning,

describe what you observed and experienced by answering the items below.

1. How did you prepare for this activity?

- I first gave a lot of thought about it of course. I had to make sure that it goes hand in hand
with the curriculum guide. I also have to make sure that it is doable by the students both in
their age and grade. Lastly, I have to make sure it is sensitive in all aspects and make sure it
doesn’t cause any harm to my students.

2. Describe how you or the teacher utilized the resources/instructional materials. Narrate your
experience as you participated and assisted.
- It was very fun. The students actually were very participative with the discussion and are
focused on the instructional materials that were used, which means it was very effective. I
therefore conclude that with the right instructional materials, students become more
motivated to learn.

3. What were your feelings and thoughts while you were assisting with the use of the
resource/materials?
- It was very nerve-racking! I was very nervous especially that it’s my first time being in front
of the students. But I look at it as a preparation for my future profession, and I think to
myself that this is what’s going to be almost every day in the future.

4. Describe how the students responded and participated.

- They were made to listen to music and was shown videos that the majority can relate. There
were a series of gasps and recognition from them. It was fulfilling to see how they are very
responsive to the instructional materials.

ANALYZE

1. What worked well during the activity using the resources/materials?

- I’d say the music. Many loves K-pop and anime soundtracks, which is a par of J-pop, and
those are a hit to today’s generation. The students hearing their favorites songs from the
two has caused them to giggle and cheer with delight.

2. What part can be improved?

- I think the pacing of the use of the instructional materials, meaning, every use of hem
should have and accurate timing. Like when using a music, each song to be played should
only be 30 seconds to maximize the time of the subject.
3. What would you have done differently? What would I change? What will make it better next
time?
- Not much to be honest. I was quite proud of the instructional materials used because I
worked my hardest trying to utilize them. But probably the contents of my PowerPoint. It
should be more creative than what was now.

4. How does this connect with that you know about selecting and using instructional materials?
- When selecting instructional materials, always make sure that it is direct to the point, direct
to the lesson you will deliver. Don’t put too much of distractions or add-ons, otherwise it
would distract the focus of the students.

REFLECT

1. How ready am I in selecting and developing resources/instructional materials in the teaching-

learning process?
- On the scale of 1-10, I would say a 7, because I think I still have a lot to learn especially in the
accuracy of them, of my content. Although in what I did, I could say it was pretty effective
since it created an atmosphere of interest among the students.

2. What do I still need to learn to select and develop resources/instructional materials in teaching
effectively?
- What I still need to learn is to not overdo it. There are some of my instructional materials,
like the content of my PowerPoint presentation, that’s overdone and it kind of went away
from the discussion, like it was a bit of a distraction.

3. What can I do to learn more about and practice the use of resources and instructional
materials?
- Probably to watch more videos, learn from articles or ask some advices from my resource
teacher. They are the ones that has more experience in that field than me, so it is just
reasonable to ask advices from them.

WRITE ACTION RESEARCH PROMPTS

OBSERVE
1. Doing this episode on selecting and using resources/instructional materials, what
problematic situation/challenges/area of improvement did I find?
- The problem I find dominant here is the lack. Lack of more possible instructional materials
to be used like visual aid related. It lacks a sense of traditional teaching which I think from
time to time, students should not forget.
REFLECT

2. List at least three sources that you have read about this problem/challenge/area of
improvement:

powers of the people reasoning and
judgment

traditional-education-in-todays-date/ learning opportunities
On what theories/principles can this problem be anchored?
- I’d say constructivism learning theory because here, students actually create their own
learning based on their previous experiences. Which means that the traditional way of
education, say for example, taking down notes, would allow students to be patient and do a
bit of hard work. And they would look back on this experience in the future and use it as a
learning and apply it to wherever they may be someday.

3. What do I hope to achieve to address the challenge/area of improvement? What change do

I want to achieve?
- I want to incorporate bit of traditional learning time to time to give students a sense of a
hard worked learning and not just a hard work of clicking pictures on every topic they see on
the board.

PLAN
4. What strategies/solutions/means can I employ to improve the situation/solve the problem?
- Probably by making students take down notes manually using notebook and ballpen in one
of the lessons I would deliver.

ACT
5. If you will conduct action research, what will be the title? (Base this on your answers in nis.
1-3).
- The title I have in mind is, “The relevance of traditional education in the technological era”.
CHECK FOR MASTERY
1. The Dale Cone of Experience can help the teacher be mindful of the choice of resources
or instructional materials in terms of _.
- D. extent of adaptation and modification

2. Miss Violo told the story of the Giving Tress in her toddler class. She used the book itself
to show the illustration to the two-year-olds and showed all thirty pages of the book.
Miss Violo struggled just to finish the book because the toddlers were not focusing.
Some lay on the floor stretching; others ran around the room. Which criterion did she
fail to consider in choosing a material?
- C. student interest and engagement

3. For a theme on careers, Mr. Menggay let his students watch interview clips of successful
people in business who were all males. The clips seem to send a message that only men
succeed in the business field. Mr. Menggay did have any follow-up discussion on the
clips. Which criterion in selecting resources/materials should the teacher have
considered?
- B. inclusive and free of cultural bias

4. Which of the following gives the learners the most concrete experience?
- A. watching a theater play on the Death March

5. A teacher should consider all these criteria for choosing a resource material except?
- B. is the most expensive therefore the most durable
