Linear Equation in Two Variables

● A linear equation in two variables is an equation that can be written

in the form: 𝒂𝒙 + 𝒃𝒚 = 𝒄
where a, b, and c are real numbers, 𝒂 ≠ 𝟎 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒃 ≠ 𝟎.

Linear Equation in Two Variables

Things to remember in identifying linear equation in two variables:

● It has two variables.
● There is NO more than one variable in each term.
● The exponent of the variable in each term is 1 (or the degree of
the equation is 1).
● There is NO variable in the denominator.
● There is NO variable inside radical sign.
● Generally, it is written in the form 𝐴𝑥 + 𝐵𝑦 = 𝐶.
