Overview:

Just like a blink of an eye, coronavirus (COVID-19) has made great changes in
people’s lives all over the world. Those changes give us many questions how education
could be possible with this health risks.
However, COVID- 19 has become a challenge to the Department of Education
to be more innovative. It prompted new educational innovations and approaches for the
sake of the Filipino youth. They need more education to know more how to survive and
protect themselves amidst the pandemic.
Bata Elementary School II with the leadership of Principal III, Rossana G.
Villanueva accepted the challenge and answered the call of the Division of Bacolod City
for its mantra: “Una Sa Tanan BATA”Buligan, Amligan, Tudluan, Alalayan), Basta
Bacolodnon, Baskug kag Kampeon! Bugal sang Negrosanon! The principal and the
School Planning Team met on how to accomplish the tasks in preparation for this New
Normal Situation of Education without putting the risk of all stakeholders involved.
The school innovated ways and means with the approval and coordination of
the teachers, different school coordinators and school utilities to be a BEST SCHOOL:
Bold Empowered Smart Team Surpassing Challenges Heeding Outstanding Opportunities
in Learning.
Before the start of SY 2020-2021, Bata ES II had prepared the school ensuring
that precautions be taken and proper health protocols be strictly followed. Hand washing
facilities at the entrance gate and free- hand sanitizing with faucets at the Module Drop-
off Area were put up. Realizing the school mantra: “YES para sa BATA, KAMI PA YA!”
(Yuhom with Energetic Service, Kampyon Angkunon, Maghatag Inspirasyon Padayon
Agumon, Yabi sa Ambisyon!).

Innovation Description:
Bata Elementary School II abides the DepEd Order on SBM WinS to have a
ratio of 1:10 (One hand washing faucet for ten learners). The school aims for 3 STARS
and so the number of hand washing facilities be sufficient for learners but less expensive.
Since it’s Pandemic time, No Kids are allowed to school, only parents or guardians go to
school to return and get the SLMs/LAS (Self Learning Modules/ Learner’s Activity Sheet)
for their children. With this, innovation is needed and collaborative efforts of teachers and
donations from stakeholders came up using indigenous materials from the community.
Old tires and empty 5 – gallon mineral water containers were recycled and
made as the foundation of the faucets intended for the handwashing facilities as part of
the health protocol for parents or guardian who return and get modules from school. Each
grade level has its own handwashing station.
Some of the old tires were also used as the main component in the
construction of conference nooks in every grade level. Where further instructions
regarding SLMs/LAS concerns are addressed with the parents / guardians during retrieval
and distribution of modules.

Innovation Statement:
This innovation aims to protect the health of both internal and external
stakeholders in raising awareness of following proper health and safety protocols set by
the IATF during this times of pandemic in the New Normal set-up of Education.
The Handwashing Stations were also established for future “Face – to – Face
Classes” where the learners, parents and teachers can utilize as preventive measures for
their physical well-being and the Conference Nooks will be used as Reading Activity and
other Learning Activity nooks for learners.

B. Project Management

Aiming for 3 stars the SBM WinS Coordinator suggested to add more
handwashing
station to reach the prescribed target ratio of 1:10. The innovation team and school’s
DRRM coordinator decided to have handwashing station per grade level with the approval
of the school head. Afterwards, the school DRRM identify the area where to put the
project. The team innovators with the school head met for the lay-out or design of the
project. The agreed layout was implemented and constructed with the help of the job order
personnel.
The BRIGADA chairman looked for donors and gathered materials/ resources
needed. Parents, stakeholders and teachers donated recycled materials, like car tires, 5 –
galloons used containers, paints, sand and gravel, umbrellas and cements. Teachers
voluntarily donated generous amount for the faucets and pipes.
The project was collaboratively constructed by the school job order personnel and
parents. And checked by the innovation team with school DRRM coordinator.
