DATE: MARCH 15, 2021 TIME: 8:30 - 9:30 am

I. OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:


a. Identify the author's purpose in the given statements;
b. analyze the given statements and examples to know Author's Purpose in writing; and,
c. demonstrate the examples of the Author's Purpose.

A. Prayer and Greetings (Duration: 2 minute)

- May I request everybody to please stand; and,


let's begin the discussion with a prayer.

- Our Most Precious and Loving God, we come


before You today to Acknowledge Your work in
every heart of Your children; and, to thank You for
another day and opportunity to learn and improve
ourselves with the help our teacher. May Your
guidance and protection, Your sweet embrace,
and healing grace be upon on us, especially as we
are facing pandemic. In Jesus name we pray,

already mastered our past lesson.

- Sir, to describe mood, someone should think


about the setting and the language used by the
author.
- Wow! You've just about mastered it! Mood is the
feeling you get while reading a story. This could be
happiness, sadness, darkness, anger, suspicion,
loneliness, or even excitement.

D. Setting the classroom rules (Duration: 3 minutes)

- Well, I think you're all ready for today's topic.


- But before we start, let us be reminded of our
classroom rules.
- Again, what should be the key WORD to easily
remember our classroom rules?

E. Motivation (Duration: 2 minutes)

- To proceed with, I have here some pictures for


you to observe.
- What did you observe from the pictures?
- They are wearing mask ang face shield sir as part
of our health and safety protocol.
- Absolutely! It's pretty simple class, wearing a
mask or face shield will help you protect your
classmates and teachers, your parents and love
ones, your community, and YOU!

but in a more fashionable way.
- Precisely, what do you think their reasons or
purpose of doing so?
- We'll answer that later after our first activity
today.

F. Lesson Proper (Total Duration: 35 minutes)

I. ACTIVITY: (Duration: 4 minutes)

- Now for our first activity, I'll be showing you set


of pictures, and you'll be given 4 minutes to
observe. (Picture Analysis and Brainstorming Activity)

 Why do writers write? What is an author’s


purpose?
- I want everybody to please read the following
sentences about the 'Purpose of the Author'.
(The class is reading)
- Purpose is the author’s reason in writing.
- An author writes to share a main idea about a
topic.
- Here's a pie graph for you to easily identify the
THREE MAIN REASON of the Author's Purpose in
writing.

- And the word 'PIE' itself can also be used to assist


you in remembering the three main reasons of the
Author's Purpose.
P - PERSUADE (1st tierce)
I - INFORM (2nd tierce)
E - ENTERTAIN (3rd tierce)

- Kindly read the following:


- To persuade is to convince the reader to agree
with the author’s point of view on a subject. It
means that the author is trying to get you to or try
something.
- Examples:
COMMERCIALS, BILLBOARDS,
ADVERTISEMENTS, OPINIONS,
POLITICAL ADS, and MORE.
- To inform is to give information about a subject.
It means that the author is trying to give you an
information and teach you facts.
- Examples:
DOCUMENTARIES, NEWS ARTICLES,
NON FICTION BOOKS, RECIPE BOOKS
HISTORY, BIOGRAPHIES, and ETC.

- To entertain is to amuse and delight; to appeal


to the reader’s senses and imagination. It means
that the author is trying to make you enjoy the
story by keeping the readers attention.
- Examples:
FICTION BOOKS, FANTASY, MYSTERY,
COMICS/JOKES, ADVENTURES,
ROMANCE, and MANY MORE.

(For the mastery of the lesson, the learners will


choose the author’s purpose for each passage)

the Author's Purpose.

Group 1: Political ads.


Group 2: Headline News.
Group 3: A comedy play.

Instruction: In a ¼ sheet of paper, analyze and identify the purpose of the following lines:
1. “I believe you can have the power to be steward of change. Your influence can make our world
better.”
2. “This pandemic has brought changes in our lives. This minimum health standard has become part
of our routine.”
3. “I can be everybody’s friend. You can trust me always!”
4. “I don’t believe in you! You said that we only live once? No, we live everyday and only die once.”
5. “When I was young, I used to be impulsive. But now, I think first before acting.”

V. GENERALIZATION: (Duration: 2 minute)

- Class I have a question or two, to check if you


really mastered our lesson for today.
- Did you learn something today? And what is it?
- Yes teacher, it is all about the 'Author's Purpose'

- Again, what are the main reasons of the Author's
Purpose?
- We just have to remember the word 'PIE'
