Personal Relationships
Brief Introduction
In this lesson, we will expand the relationships of adolescents to a
wider group of people, such as schoolmates, neighbors,
community acquaintance, church group, and even the small
group of friends usually referred to as cliques. As you mingle with
different individuals especially with people you admire or look up
to, you may adopt some of their traits and characteristics. This
lesson will help you discover your potentials and capabilities
which may help you assume your responsibilities in your
respective communities.
PLANE CRASH
Imagine that you are on a plane. The plane that you are riding on had crashed. Suppose
that place is in a jungle. Together with few survivors, you look and choose five things
in that jungle that you find useful in aiding your survival.

1. Trait Theory- define leadership based on


personality traits like decisiveness,
persistence, persistence, self-confidence and
assertiveness.

a learned behavior and are defined according
to certain types of behavior they exhibit.

3. Participative theory – the opposite of an


autocratic leader, it involves other people to
make common decisions

4. Transactional theory – this theory states that


leadership involves a transaction or
negotiation position that employs reward and
punishment.

5. Transformational theory – this theory


involves a vision, and the role of the leader is
in motivating others to support the vision to
make it happen.
Types of Social Influence:
Types of Social Influence:
Herbert Kelman, a Harvard Psychologist, suggested
that there are three varieties of Social Influence:
1. Compliance – when a person seems to agree and
follows what is required of him/her to do but does not
necessarily believe or agree to it.

2. Identification – when a person is influenced by
someone, he/she likes or look up to, like a celebrity or
superhero.
3. Internalization – when a person is able to own a belief,
and make it known
publicly and privately.
Community Activities and Civic Responsibility
You can take civic responsibility and be active in your
community by:
joining a Youth advisory through the local council
helping with a primary school play or coaching a junior sport
setting up an arts space for the community, or organize a youth
radio
promoting causes-for example, clean environment, save an area
of wildlife
Servant Leadership
Servant Leadership is servant first
according to Robert K. Greenleaf. It
begins with natural feeling that one wants
to serve, to serve first. Then conscious
choice brings one to aspire to lead.

Servant-leaders as people who initiate
action, goal-oriented, dreamers of great
dreams, good communicators, able to
withdraw and re-orient themselves,
creative, and are dependable.

1. Courage to do responsibility –
Effective follower feels a sense of personal
responsibility and ownership for his or her
own behavior in the organization.

If the leader’s actions contradict the best
interest of the organization, effective follower
takes a stand. Do not sacrifice your own
integrity or the good of the organization just to
maintain harmony

Effective followers view the struggle of
change and transformation as a mutual
experience shared by all members, support
the leader and does not afraid to confront the
changes.

motivated, can get things done, accept
