How are researchers'
ontological and
epistemological assumptions
related to the quality of
research?

Main Ideas

With various founding theories and principles that govern in coming-

up into a research study, a researcher should have a solid foundation
as to the direction of the research process. This, I confirm that a such
directly affects the research quality. One’s knowledge to a field compel
us on how to enrich and put substance on the field. Also, your
background will define the success as to where you are leaning
towards. This becomes a guiding principle of your content, goals, and
the function your research may serve.

Annotation and Reference Citation

The material introduces key theoretical and epistemological

concepts replete with historical and current real-world
examples. This provides an invaluable resource to guide the
critical and qualitative inquiry process written in an accessible
and non-intimidating style that brings these otherwise difficult
concepts of life

Main Ideas

The choice of view of the researcher links to his/her preferred

philosophical views and approaches affects the quality of research.
It helps you to probe the appropriate research design, research
questions and interpretation of data and formulate conclusions.
A researcher should have a good background on how to prove the
different of views and on how to carry out this views which will
contribute to reality. Every researcher has the ability to gain
knowledge and the ability to describe.

According to this material, stemming from ontology (what

exists for people to know about) and epistemology (how
knowledge is created and what is possible to know) are
philosophical perspectives, a system of generalized views
of the world, which form beliefs that guide action

Main Ideas
The ontological and epistemological foundations of the researchers greatly
influence the research output. Yet novice researchers struggle to define their
positionality. A clear understanding of the philosophical orientation can guide
researchers in conducting their research. Hence, linking research and
philosophical traditions helps researchers clarify their researcher’s theoretical
frameworks. Theoretical Framework must then be aligned with the goals of their
research. The research framework includes the beliefs about the nature of reality
(ontology), the theory of knowledge that informs the research (epistemology),
and how that knowledge may gain (methodology) that present different research
methodologies used in their researches.

Main Ideas

Ontology is concerned with what actually exists in the world about which
humans can acquire knowledge while epistemology is concerned with all
aspects of the validity, scope, as well as methods of gaining knowledge,
such as a) what creates a knowledge claim; b) how knowledge can be
acquired or produced; and c) how to assess the extent of its transferability.
Epistemology is significant because it influences how researchers frame
their research in the quest for knowledge. Both assumptions provide
varying ways of viewing the world.
