COMMUNITY EXTENSION-OUTREACH PROGRAM

Early in the morning on the day of December 14, 2022, I woke up early for our community extension
outreach program that will be held at Bued mangrove at 8:00 am where I belong to the team in red. The
team of green, blue, and yellow are also included in the said activity and they are also accompanied by
their leader who is also a STI teacher. We went straight to the bridge to enjoy the wind and waves.
While there, we took some pictures with team red. Later, while we were still hanging out, the
instructors called us to a nearby section of the mangroves and instructed us to make jingles to represent
each team. We just stood at the end of the bridge waiting for our leader's jingle and while waiting we
observed the big trees around us and many small trees. Others started taking pictures because of the
beautiful background while I could hear others singing. We happily made the jingle along with the jokes
and while we were practicing the jingle of each team, there was a woman announcing and telling a story
about the importance of mangrove.

She told us the importance of mangroves she said that the mangroves provide natural infrastructure and
protection to nearby populated areas by preventing erosion and absorbing storm surge impacts during
extreme weather events such as hurricanes. They are also important to the ecosystem too. Their dense
roots help bind and build soils. She also mentioned that TV5 will cover the said activity that we will do.
She taught us that every plant we plant is important and will give it to us for free, but if we sell it, it costs
30 pesos each. He also taught us the proper handling of each plant because it might not survive if
handled incorrectly. He told us that one day we will see what we planted and remember how we
planted it. And after she spoke, we thought that the jingle would continue because we were exposed to
the sun a bit and we were sweating a lot, but suddenly the presentation of the jingle was not continued
for reasons unknown to us. All of us were instructed to take our respective plants to be planted in the
mud or the sea and after I waited for a long time, I finally reached the plant that I was going to plant and
I started walking towards the area where it will be planted.

As I was going to the area to plant, I immediately felt the fatigue in my arm because I am not used to this
kind of work and I realized that it is difficult to do it, not as I thought I would just plant. while we were
going down to the sea and I handed my plant to my colleague at the bottom so that I could get down the
stairs properly and here I noticed that the other plant had already cut its stem. While I was putting down
my bag at that time, I noticed that there was mud on it and maybe some fool had put it in my bag but I
just let it go and went back down. Before I got off, someone told me to leave my slippers because the
way was muddy and I immediately listened.

When I got down from the mud, I immediately took my plant and went to the very planting area and as I
was going to the area, I felt that the shells hurt my feet. As we got closer and closer, the number of
shells increased and the water got deeper and deeper where I almost fell. And finally we reached the
area after a muddy walk. I immediately look for a place to plant my plant and watch out for the man
digging holes in the mud. The digger seemed to be taking a long time so I tried to use my hand to dig out
the mud and suddenly someone came and told me not to use my hand because the wave would just
knock it over. But since I wanted to get out of the heat right away, I made a way, I borrowed a digger so I
could plant my plant while others waited for the digger and kept taking pictures.

And when I successfully planted my plant, I immediately looked for a way out of the water and as I was
leaving, a well-known person took a video of us, but I didn't know him so I just kept walking. I
immediately took my bag and went to the area where I can wash while waiting for the other team to
finish planting because the next activity is team building. And while waiting, my companions felt hungry
and I took out the food I had prepared because I knew I would be hungry too. The teachers have also
prepared the food and the other team has already eaten because of the tiredness and heat of the sun.

And after everyone finished eating, we were given time to rest and talk. Planting mangroves is difficult
but worth it on the other hand. It will continue to strengthen the soil. It's fun to plant with friends and
teammates And after we finished talking and the team building was approaching but we didn't know
that it would not continue due to the heat of the weather so our team building would be replaced by
our attendance at the sports fest.
