the Neoclassic and Romantic periods (e.g linear style and painterly style (A9PR-
lll-c-e-1), describe the influence of iconic artist belonging to the Neoclassic and
Romantic periods (A9PR-lll-c-e-2), apply different media techniques and
processes to communicate ideas, experiences, and stories showing the
characteristics of the Neoclassic and Romantic periods (A9PR-lll-c-e-3),
evaluate works of art in terms of artistic concepts and ideas using criteria from
the Neoclassic and Romantic periods(A9PR-lll-f-4), show the influences of
Neoclassic and Romantic periods on Philippine art forms (A9PR-lll-f-4), and
participate in an exhibit using completed artworks with Neoclassic and
Romantic period characteristics.

Neoclassicism and Romanticism in the Philippines

Here in the Philippines, the ideology of Neoclassicism and Romanticism can
be seen through various major artworks such as paintings, sculptures and
architectural structures. Some of the well-known contributing artists express their
skills and ideas in their own respective field of specialization.

FELIX RESURRECCION HIDALGO Y PADILLA (1855-1913)

 He was one of the great Filipino painters of the late 19 th century who
was significant in the Philippine history for inspiring members of the
Philippine reform movement.
