number.
Reason : Sum of two irrational numbers is always an irrational number.
(a) Both assertion(A) and reason(R) are true and reason(R) is the correct
explanation of assertion (A).
(b) Both assertion(A) and reason(R) are true but reason(R) is
not the correct explanation of assertion(A).
(c) Assertion(A) is true but reason(R) is false.
(d) Assertion(A) is false but reason(R) is true.
4. Assertion: The abscissa of a point (5, 2) is 5.
Reason:The perpendicular distanceof a point from y-axisiscalled
its abscissa.
(a) Both assertion(A) and reason(R) are true and reason(R) is the correct
explanation of assertion (A).

CASE STUDY
5. During COVID pandemic, Doctors and Nurses worked day and night to save lives. The
management of a hospital decided to make a rule regarding the payment to be made to the
doctors for their hard work. The rule is as follows:
For first 5 hours, the doctor gets Rs. 10,000 and for every extra hour of work, he/ she
will get Rs 500.
If a doctor works for ‘x’ hours and total amount paid to doctor for 1 day is Rs y, then
based on the above information, answer the following questions:
(a) The linear equation formed from the above situation is
(i) y = 10000 + 500x
(ii) y = 500 x 10000 + x
(iii) y = 10000 + 500(x-5)
(iv) y = 10000 x (x-5) + 500
(b) The standard form of linear equations formed is
(i) 500x + y -7500 = 0
(ii) 500x – y +7500 = 0
(iii) 500x + y +7500 = 0
(iv) x + 500y – 7500 = 0
(c) The number of solutions of the linear equation formed is
(i) one
(ii) two
(iii) infinite
(iv) none
(d) If a doctor works for 8 hours, then the amount paid to the doctor is
(i) Rs 11,500
(ii) Rs 10,500
(iii) Rs 14,000
(iv) Rs 8,500
