Project Implementation

Directions: Immersing in a chosen community is not an easy task. It requires knowledge, skills, and
attitudes, which assure that a trainee could properly respond to community needs. But another
important thing to consider is how manageable are the community situation and environment. The
following can be possible scenarios in the community during project implementation. As a trainee, how
will you respond to the following situations? (5 POINTS EACH)

Situation 1

You are interviewing the head of a household dining a community needs assessment survey
when all of a sudden all other family members started hanging around your Interview area. Children
started to be noisy. They climb your back and pull your arms. Their parents or guardians seemed
unaware that the children were already bothering you. They went on telling their story to you about the
community. What will you do so that you can better facilitate the interview?

Reaction to Situation 1:

I will get the attention of the parents and tell them to gather their children in a spot, preferably
outside the house or in a room, and tell them to behave. They may play with each other. For the entire
time of interviewing, they will stay in that spot so that I can finish the interview.

Situation 2

You are implementing a free tutorial session every Saturday to 15 elementary students so that
you could assist them in their studies have planned well your budget and have already assigned tasks for
each person in your group. One day, some parents came approached your group. They expressed that
the tutorial services have contributed to a great extent in reinforcing student learning. They were happy
to see college students helping depressed communities. They praised you for your high standard of
education and told you that they wished their children could be just like you when they grow up. But,
they also asked whether their children could be part of the tutorial service. Despite that you are really
following the terms of your memorandum of agreement and project proposal, what will be your next
action regarding this situation?

Reaction to Situation 2:
Situation 3

During your regular community visits, you encountered a member of the barangay until. He
came to you and said to you, in front of many people, that he was not informed of the project you are
undertaking. Although you remembered that this particular council member was not present when you
paid a courtesy call to the barangay leaders. What will you do to convince him and the rest of the
community of your good intentions?

Reaction to Situation 3:

I will tell the Barangay Council that the Chairman was already informed last meeting when that
Barangay Council was not present. I would also tell him that I was also given the permission to partake
of the community visit. If the Barangay Council has questions, I would lead him to the Chairman himself.
And if he insists, I will call the Chairman himself to meet with us and so that the three of us can
communicate this activity properly.

Situation 4

A client approached you while you were facilitating a "Family Day" affair in a child care center.
He asked for your number and said that he would really like to invite you out for a dinner. You know
pretty well that he is asking you out for a date. How will you deal with this situation?

Reaction to Situation 4:

I would politely refuse for the time being and suggest him to do it in another time. I would
prioritize work and family first before engaging in such activities.

Situation 5

A young boy suddenly took off his T-shirt in front of you and the other children that you are
accompanying for the day. You were discussing to them about good moral character when at the same
time he loudly yawned as if to challenge your position on the subject. Other children started to laugh.
The child care center supervisor was attending to a task when it happened. What would be your next
action?

Reaction to Situation 5:

I would properly communicate to that child that respect is an important principle of life and
that doing such thing another time would get him into consequences. If the kid insists, I will inform the
parents of that kid about his attitude so that they may give him proper disciplinary actions.
Situation 6

The community you were serving was unfortunately razed by a fire. You gathered your
members and organized a relief operation to momentarily attend to their basic needs by mobilizing
some of your school's resources. You were dispensing the goods when you realized that people from a
nearby community not affected by the fire were lining up to receive some relief. Some family members
of the community were able to get twice as much relief goods. Despite your good intentions, what could
have been possibly done to avert the situation? What could you still do after finding out what was
happening?

Reaction to Situation 6:

In the first place, I would have a master list of the residents in the community affected by the
fire. If a resident in line is not included in the master list, then he or she will not be given relief goods.
And if somehow, some unincluded residents have bypassed and received donations, I will call the police
or any Barangay Officials to help me settle the matter
