Discussion video
Speaking skill: When you are speaking with someone, it is polite to take turns talking.
Taking turns keeps the conversation going and shows that you are interested in what the
other person is saying.
If the other person asks you a question, answer it, and add some new information. If
possible, ask a question of your own. Here are some questions you can use.
What do you think? How about you? Don’t you think so?
Do you agree? What do you say? Right?
Watch the discussion again and note down any language the speakers use for taking and
giving turns.

three turns each, and signal your partner’s turn by using questions from the speaking skill box.
1. Who was your most effective teacher when you were a child? What impressed you
about him or her?
2. Have you ever made a bad first impression on someone else? What did you do?
UNIT ASSIGNMENT

impression? Check whether you think each item is very important, important, or not
important. Then compare and discuss your answers with a partner.
