For final requirements for the subject Arts and Humanities: Indigenous
Creative Crafts, there are a lot of crafts to be made to our discipline, Industrial
Arts. We chose the Wood Carving which is the process of carving, sculpture,
designing, and holing the wood to its amazing features and appearance. We
simply gathered the materials such as wood (miyapi), bolo, color paint, paint
brush for finishing and the varnish (Celac). Our design is the Whale Figure
with black and white color. We adopt the design based in picture in the
internet.

DESIGN OF OUR PROJECT TREE OF MIYAPI

\
On December 24, 2022. First day of the Project making, we went to my
grandfather/mother to their house in Cawayan behind the location of DYSM
Radio Station. We cuts the parts or the branch of the Miyapi tree. Then, we
slowly peel off the wood to be smoothen and to have a first coating of the
surface. Next, we cuts the edges of the wood for the alloted size of the whale
figure. Then, we started to carve the edges and the wood to copy the features
of the whale figure. We used almost 3 hours to carve and cuts the parts
because the wood is slightly hard and difficult to carve. It will need enough
energy and patient to carve your design. Then, that time we only used a bolo
to carve because of lack of hand/power tools.

On December
26, 2022. Second
Day of Project
making, we started
the wood to exposed
in the sun for a few
hours before we
apply the polishing
the edges. Then, after
a few hours we
started to polish the
edges for some rough
surfaces to look like the whale body. Afterwards,
we apply sand paper to the wood surface for smoothen and flatten the edges
and surfaces of our wood.
On December 27, 2022. Third Day of Project making. We started to paint the
surface of the wood with black and white acrylic paint color, we also copy the
color features of the whale figure from top to bottom. Afterwards, we started to
dry the paint color into the wood.
On January 4, 2022. Due to the severe weather or northeast
moonson/amihan, the group could not met because of the location of our
house are variously far from each other. Some are in Dalakit, Cawayan,
Mondragon and Bangkerohan. We almost missed one week to finish our
project due to unnecessary events. In this day, we continue to apply
celac/varnish from our whale figure project wood carving.
