I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:


a. analyse elements and principles of art in the production of one’s arts and craft inspired by
the arts of Luzon (highlands and lowlands)

b. identify characteristics of arts and crafts in the specific areas of Luzon (e.g., papier mache
[taka] from Paete, Laguna, Ifugao wood sculptures [bul’ul], Cordillera jewelry and pottery,
tattoo and Ilocos weaving [Inabel] and pottery [burnay]

c. appreciate the artifacts and art objects in terms of their functions and their distinct use of
elements and principles.

d. trace the external (foreign) and internal (indigenous) influences reflected in the design of
an artwork and in the making of a craft or artefact.

e. show relationship of the development of crafts in the specific areas of the country
according to function, traditional specialized expertise and availability of resources

f. show the relationship of Luzon (highlands and lowlands arts and crafts to the Philippine
culture, traditions and history (Islamic Influences, Spanish modernization and entertainment,
as well as in indigenous practices, fiestas, and religious and social practices.

g. create artworks showing the characteristic elements of the arts of Luzon (highlands and
lowlands)

D. Application

Activity: Just Like A Tattoo

Tattoo is another art form in the Philippines. The designs are connected with their
ceremonies, traditions, and values. People from the Mountain Province use different symbols
on their tattoos.

In this activity, design an example of a traditional or modern tattoo. You may also
use other symbols from your surroundings as inspiration for your tattoo designs.

Activity: Make your own pot/jar using clay or any available material you can use in pottery
making.

1. Form the clay into round balls.
2. Using your thumb, push it in the center.
3. Rotate it at the center and continue pinching the clay until you get the desired shape.
4. Start designing your pot using the tip of the pencil.
