I. Lesson 7-8: Mediums and Techniques, Elements of Art and Principle of Composition
II. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, I can:
a. explain the meaning of medium and technique as important components of form through
actual hands-on activities
b. create an artwork that demonstrate knowledge of form as a process of transformation
requiring skill, imagination, knowledge of contemporary material, techniques, and
competence in technique
c. create an integrative artwork that will demonstrate the interrelationship between the arts
and their elements

Activity 4
Technique and Elements of Art
Coffee Painting
Direction: Paint an artwork using COFFEE as your medium. Your artwork should have a subject of ‘’Life in
the Middle of Pandemic’’.
Materials needed:
1. Oslo Paper or Long coupon Bond
2. Instant Coffee
3. Paintbrush (DIY Paintbrush, paintbrush from watercolor, brush from nail polish)
4. Water and container
5. Rag or extra cloth
6. Scrap paper (for testing)
Directions:
1. Prepare the materials needed and set up your workplace.
2. Create different shades in separate cups. Drop a small amount of coffee powder into a cup or a
container and add a droplets of water and mix it using your brush.
3. If you want a darker color, the amount of coffee powder should not be more than that of a water. For
a lighter shade, you can add more water.
4. You can now start painting your chosen design.
5. Add another paint when the first layer is dry (layering)
6. Add dimension and details on your design.
7. Finish your design and let it dry.
