inspired by the arts of Ilocos Region;
2. Identifies characteristics of arts and crafts in Ilocos Region; and.
3. Incorporate the design, form, and spirit of Ilocos Region’s artifacts and objects in one’s
creation.

B. Review of the Lesson

Before we proceed to our discussion, let’s
have first review the Elements of Arts and
Principles of Arts and Design.

Rhythm, Emphasis, balance, unity / variety,

Emphasis is visually dominant and
commands the viewer's attention.
The 3 different ways of balance are:
symmetry, asymmetry and radial symmetry.
We can apply these types of elements and

day as our motivation or inspiration.

ARTS AND CRAFTS OF ILOCOS

REGION

In Ilocos Region there are different arts and

crafts such as: Architecture, textile, pottery
and weaving.
Architecture in Ilocos Region particularly in
Vigan, considered as the “Intramuros of the
Class, what is Architecture in Ilocos region?
North”, These old Spanish-type houses have
huge, high-pitched roofs, large and
rectangular living rooms that are made of
adobe, bricks, lime, terracotta, hardwood
 floors, and windows of capiz shells framed in
wooden window panels.

Textile
Inabel is a hand weaving technique of the
Ilocanos that is produced using traditional
wooden looms. The inabel design are inspired
by natural elements: patterns that depict
different landforms, the colors of flowers and
vegetation, plaid, zigzag, animal patterns, the
ocean waves, or the glittering night sky.
Pottery
Burnay is an unglazed earthen jar with
small opening.It is used for storage for water
and rice grains and as container for salt, brown
sugar, basi (local wine) and bagoong
(fermented fish).

PANGASINAN
Weaving
The arts and crafts of Pangasinan include
smoothly woven Bolinao mats made from buri
or raffia leaves, and the bamboo crafts
(baskets furniture) of San Carlos.
