5. pictures here. Observe the changes made with the following materials.

6. OVERLAY PICTURES FROM MODULE P. 5

7. What have you observed in the pictures?
8. Yes, different changes have been made to the old tire.
9. As we can see in picture A the old tire has been made into a swing while in picture B
10. the old tire has been burned.
11. Which picture shows that the change made in the old tire is useful? That’s right! Picture A
12. shows that the change made in the old tire is useful.
13. But what made it useful? Yes! Turning this old tire into a swing can make children and adult
14. enjoy riding on it.
15. Which picture shows that the change made in the old tire is harmful?
16. Correct! Picture B shows that the change made in old tire is harmful.
17. What made burning of old tire harmful?
18. Burning old tires can cause negative impact on the environment and on people’s health
19. Because it pollutes the air that we breathe.
20. TRANSITIONAL ANIMATION
21. I guess you have a brilliant mind to classify whether the change is harmful or useful to the
environment. Now let me show you some pictures and tell me if it is useful or harmful. Game?
Great!
22. CUT TO GRAPHICS:
23. OVERLAY PICTURES FROM MODULE PAGE 6

24. VO: DO you know what this picture is?

25. Yes, you are right. As you can see in the picture, pieces of wood are made into a chair.
26. Is the change useful or harmful?

1. The pictures show that trees are being cut.
2. Is the change useful or harmful?
3. The answer is harmful.
4. What made it harmful?
5. Cutting down trees takes away the oxygen, animals become homeless, and it loosens the
ground which mostly causes landslides. Great job kids!
6. CUT TP GRAPHICS:
7. CUT TO CAM: TEACHER AT THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SCREEN
8. OVERLAY ANIMATION AND PICTURE EXAMPLES
9. TEACHER: The Earth is a beautiful place where humans are provided with everything that they
could use in order to survive. They are surrounded with materials that they can utilize in order
to supply their basic needs. But some changes in the materials may be useful to the
environment, while others are harmful.
10. Example of changes in the materials that are useful to the environment are:
11. using animal wool in making a woven cloth or fabric
12. turning plastic into different cases
13. cutting fabric to be made into a pillow case
14. Example of changes in the materials that are harmful to the environment are:
15. burning of plastic materials
16. dumping garbage on land
17. cutting down trees
18. throwing dead animals into the sewage or river
19. When the material (land/soil) is dumped with garbage of any kind such as empty bottles,
plastics,
20. toxic wastes, chemical from factories and other establishment, the land becomes polluted.
21. Polluted land serves as breeding places for flies, cockroaches, and rats. These pests carry
germs
22. that cause diseases that is hazardous to one’s health. Growing plants is not also possible in
23. polluted land.
24. VO: When the material (water in the river) is dumped with garbage of any kind such as empty
25. bottles, plastic waste materials or even dead animals from houses, and other industrial and
26. chemical wastes from factories, the river becomes polluted. If we drink water contaminated with
27. germs, we are likely to get sick. Polluted water also kills living organism such as fish and water
28. plants.
29. CUT TO GRAPHICS:
30. CUT TO CAM: TEACHER AT THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SCREEN
31. TEACHER: Are you practicing burning of garbage such as plastic materials, rubber and other
32. wastes? Hmmm… please don’t do that!

--MORE--
1. VO: Many items in household garbage when burned release dangerous toxic chemicals. This
2. pose health risk especially for people particularly those with asthma and other heart and lung
3. ailments. Because the smoke is close to the ground, it can also settle on fruits, vegetables and
4. other vegetation that becomes dangerous to eat for humans and wildlife.
5. TEACHER: The smoke and toxins that enter the air also contribute to the greenhouse effect
and
6. global warming. To prevent/minimize the effect of burning of garbage wastes, Waste
Segregation
7. must be observed and the 5R’s should be practiced. Okay? Cool!

8. CUT TO GRAPHICS: WHAT IS 5R’S?

9. CUT TO CAM: TEACHER AT THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SCREEN
10. So what is 5R’? are you familiar with these? That’s right! The 5R’s of Responsible Waste
11. Management or Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair, and Rot
12. Reduce
13. Buy items in refillable containers
14. Use cloth bag/eco bag/paper bag/native baskets instead of plastic bag when you buy groceries
15. Avoid buying disposable items or single use products such as batteries, razors, utensils, plates,
16. cups, etc.
17. Reuse
18. Donate or sell reusable items
19. Use both sides of paper when printing and reuse as scratch paper, gift wrapper, etc.
20. Consider the potential life span or durability when buying new products.
21. Buy durable food storage containers and reuse them instead of using foil, plastic bags/wrap.
22. Recycle
23. Do not throw away used newspaper or used writing pads. Sell them or bring them into usable
paper again.
24. Used bottles, tin cans, rubber tires can be recycled into useful materials.
25. Repair
26. Have appliances, office equipment, lighting fixtures, and automotive parts repaired instead of
buying new ones.
27. Have an old furniture reupholstered or refurbished instead of buying new ones
28. Rot
29. Set up a compost pile to compost yard trimmings.
30. Make a compos pit/bin in the yard for your biodegradable materials such as fruits, vegetables,
31. coffee grinds etc.
