Critical thinking, problem solving

Facilitation Process
Methodology

 The teacher will reinforce the concept of natural and whole numbers by a ‘one-minute
quiz’ which will enable the students to revise their concepts. Different questions of finding
the successor and predecessor of given number and to find the whole numbers between
given rational numbers of Ex. 2.1 of NCERT will be discussed.
Activity:
 The facilitator will give the inputs and students will perform the activity given in Maths lab
manual i.e. To add ,subtract and multiply the whole numbers using a number line and will
record their results.
 The media related to whole numbers in Tata class edge content will be shown to the
students. It will further enhance their previous knowledge .

Check for Understanding Q 1.) Write the next three whole numbers occurring after
2008?

Q 2.) All natural numbers are whole numbers but all the
whole numbers are not natural numbers. Explain.

Q 3.) Verify that (a+b) = (b+a) for a=34 and b=79. State the
property used.

Closure A small test in the form of True or False statements will be

conducted.

Home Assignment/Independent Questions of Exercise 2A and 2B of number Magic will be

Practice given for home work.

Day 3,4,5(Properties of addition, subtraction and

multiplication of whole numbers)

and multiplication of whole numbers.
 Compare the application of properties on addition
and subtraction as well as multiplication.
Skill Objective

Subject Specific Skills Understanding, and Comparison.

Life Skill/Values
Critical thinking

Facilitation Process
Methodology

Students will paste the snap recap of whole numbers given in number magic in which all the
properties are given in tabular form . The facilitator will explain the different properties of whole
numbers such as
 Closure property
 Commutative property
 Associative property
 Distributive property
 Additive Identity
 Multiplicative Identity
with a suitable example.
Activity: Students will perform one activity to verify the commutative property of addition
and subtraction of whole numbers using origami paper
The students will be asked to compare the properties for addition, subtraction and
multiplication.

Check for Understanding Different examples will be written on the board and
students will be asked to identify different properties. For
example

Q1.) Identify the properties:

a) 550×14 + 550×6
b) (72×45)×21 = 72× (45×21)

Closure If all the students are able to answer the questions put up
during checking for understanding, then the teacher can

sum up the class otherwise the needful will be done to
ensure that all the doubts are clear.

Home Assignment/Independent Question no 1,2,5 of Ex. 2C of number magic and Q.7 of

Practice Ex. 2.2 of NCERT will be given for home work.

Day 6,7,8
Specific Objective
Knowledge Objective
The students will be able to
 Apply the knowledge about properties and solve
questions based on them.
 Observe the given pattern
 Write the next steps of the given pattern by following
the given steps.

Skill Objective
Analysis, Application and Problem solving.
Subject Specific Skills

Critical thinking, problem solving.

Life Skill/Values

Facilitation Process
Methodology
Day 5,6
The students will discuss the applicability of different properties such as commutative, closure and
associative and distributive.
The facilitator will discuss the applicability of different problems in solving various problems.
Different examples will be given to them about how to apply a particular property to solve the
given problem
Example : Find the sum by using suitable rearrangement.
1962+453+1538+647
Day 7.
The facilitator will write a pattern on the board and will ask the students to observe the given
pattern and to write the next two steps.
