CAPTION
1. Caption is brief description, heading, or title that identify or introduce a
document, graphic, photograph, or table. It is consist of additional
information which available in the pictures/photos. Usually it’s located below
the picture itself.  

2. Caption is a short text consist of additional information which available in the


pictures/photos. Usually it’s located below the picture itself.

3. A caption refers to a short piece of text placed under/ beside a picture in a social
media post, magazine, book, or newspaper that describes that specific picture or
explains what is happening in the picture (for example if there are people in the
picture the caption may describe what those people are doing or saying).
III. THE FUNCTION OF CAPTION
1. Caption text is a text to show the evidence about something. Caption
text is brief description or introduces a document, graphic, photograph and
so on.

2. Caption text is used to give further information related to a picture or


simply just to decorate it to look better.

IV. TYPES/KINDS OF CAPTION

1. Cutline
This caption mentions about who are the subjects in the picture or photos
and what activity they do.

2. Identification bar
The caption only mentions about subject in the picture

3. Summary
Full explanation about subject, activity, time detail, location detail and
why it’s happened.

4. Expanded

Longer version of summary caption. This also include how the event
occurred.

5. Quote

Consist of someone’s word which has been quoted related to the picture or
photos.

6. Group Identification

Used to identify when subjects are more than one.

V. SOCIAL FUNCTION, GENERIC STRUCTURE AND LANGUAGE FEATURE


1. The social function of caption is helping the reader or viewer to
understand information that may not be in a photo or a video.

4. Message in caption?
Message in caption is words that someone wants to send to the readers or viewers.

5. How to write text accompanying captions!


 Observe the picture or video that you will give the caption.
 Find out the message from the picture before you write the caption.
 Write a sentence or phrase under the picture

1. Construct your own picture and use the Caption to explain the picture.
