• The element of a publication that is often read first is the photo captions.
• Writing photo captions is an important part of a photographer’s work.
• A photo caption give the readers basic information to understand the photograph and it is
related to the news. Therefore, writing a photo caption should fulfill professional standards
of clarity, accuracy, and completeness

Professional standard photo captions include:

• The identification of the people, the place of the event, and the date when the photograph
was taken in the first sentence; and
• Relevant information in the next sentence to help readers understand the picture.
• The photo and the caption complement each other. The photo provokes the reader’s
emotional reactions while the caption satisfies the readers’ curiosity.
• Every caption should also intrigue (membangkitkan minat) the readers in a way that makes
them look back at the picture and the headline, and the read the whole story.
 WHAT IS CAPTION TEXT?
Caption Text is a short text located near photos, illustration, or diagram that gives us important
information about the photos, illustration, or diagram.

What is the Function of Caption Text?

Caption Text helping readers or viewers to understand more information that might not be in photos or
videos.

• Do not begin with the word a, an, or the

• Use present tense to describe action in the photos or videos
• Give readers infomation they can’t get from just looking at the photo or video
• A caption should complete the photo
• Write caption so they go from spesifc to general or general to spesifc
• Caption should not repeat information contained in the lead
• Name people only if they they are important to the picture
