Lardizabal
ACT 221 January 23, 2023

 MIDTERM EXAM:
DIRECTIONS: EXAMINE EACH CASE CAREFULLY AND DETERMINE ITS ETHICAL
IMPLICATIONS. REMEMBER, ANALYZE THESE CASES AS AN ETHICAL THEORIST.
ANSWER IN AT LEAST ONE PARAGRAPH. (50 points)

1. John Lloyd is a politician. He wants to win in the elections. During the campaign, he tells lies
about what he will do when he is elected. The other candidates lie like him and the people
believe them. Do you think politicians are justified in lying?
No, because eventually there lies will get testified by from what their running up to.
As a public servant here in the Philippines they believe what you say and get squandered
by the words to say to them. Even on a blatant lie with a high risk of failing people tend to
get caught up with that lie.
2. Rose is a very God-fearing person. She is married with two kids who are still very, very
young. But she loves her work in her church fellowship and spends most of the day working
with her religious community. She tells her husband to cook for the kids, to bathe them, to bring
them to school, etc. The kids need her attention. Is Rose right in devoting her whole day in the
service of God?
Sure in some cases but eventually kids need also affection, just like God you give
time for those you love. Rose is an unreasonable mother to me because rather than
spending time with your youngster you devote to much to a person that will never can be
with you with the rest of your time here in the living world. And no it is not right for her to
burden up her husband with those kind of chores with the children eventually the kids will
get used to live without their mother’s affection. Some possibilities than occur on the kids
are questions that lead to, what is God? Is he worth it to leave their child growing up? Is he
that important than your offspring? Her kids can resent her from this behaver of hers if
she continues acting up like this.
3.The village hero, James, continually steals from the rich in order to give to the poor. As a
result, the poor people love him so much because anything they need - food, clothing, money, etc
- are provided for them. Is this village hero morally permitted to steal in order to give to the
poor?
No and yes, it is bad to steal. But helping out people is not. James is a noble man if
were saying the rich people are dictators and steals from the taxes of these poor people.
And we can say James is a immoral person if he steals for a living and the people his
stealing from is equal to the one’s his giving to, just saying that people can still bottle up
there way of living to have a comforter life.
4. Karl Kenneth is a doctor. A case of potential abortion is brought to him by a teenage girl who
had an unwanted pregnancy. Is Dr. Karl Kenneth allowed to abort the two-month old child in
the mother’s womb?
Yes, abortion is a choice of those who are willing Dr. Karl has no right to question of
the patient’s choice, if the abortion is illegal from his therefore he can question and has the
right to not proceed with the procedure. A mother with an unwanted or accidental
pregnancy has a choice of her own to give birth or not, let’s say it comes from a rape case,
are you willing to have a child with the trauma you dealt with of course not depending on
the person. A kid is a blessing for a fact, it can bring out what best of you but the struggles
of sustaining one is hard specially the cost of living here in the Philippines.
5. Zairius was a very rich man. One day he hears of Christ’s saying of giving all riches to the
poor, and does exactly that! Now he is a beggar and no one takes care of him. He learned how
to steal and eventually becomes a burden in society. Was Zairius right in giving up his property
without leaving anything for himself?
For me definitely no, you can give to the poor and can still leave some of the rest for
you. Zairius on the other hand believed what Christ said, there is no guarantee that people
will do the same to the others, and the by other means it also doesn’t mean that you can
walk straight up to the heaven just by giving all of your stuff for the poor. I believe he can
provide them the needs and services without giving up all of his property and becoming a
beggar. And then he realizes that he regretted that decision he/she made.
II. Give and explain these terminologies in your own words: (10 points) (Again, make sure you
answer sufficiently with 5 sentences or more. Also, NEVER copy-paste from any source. If you
will paraphrase, make sure you know HOW to paraphrase. And cite the article where you got
your answers. Better answer on your own, otherwise, failure in this exam):
1. Define ETHICS.
- Ethic in my words are just the basic moral of a person. In others word ethics is a
form of judgement within people’s moral basis on situations. And it is a study of
what is right and what is wrong. Ethics is concerned with what is good for
individuals and society and is also described as moral philosophy.
