LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of this module, the learner should be able to:
a.) Narrate the Cretaceous-Paleogene epoch (135-25 million years)
b.) Describe the rudimentary undertakings of earliest inhabitants of the archipelago during the
Neogene epoch (25-2 million years)
c.) Enumerate the significant development in the existence of the aborigines during the
Quarternary epoch (2 million-10,000 years)
LESSON OVERVIEW
This module will provide a general perspective to students about what has transpired to the
earth in the lenses of geography, geology, and the environment when earliest homo sapiens
first roamed the land. The existence of the Philippine archipelago and its gradual physical
transformation through countless of years, and man’s adaptation to its challenges is a very
interesting topic to start with in the discussions of Philippine history.
The interesting events carefully researched and scholarly conjectured by historians and
archaeologists in these lessons are so vital as a primer setting to succeeding history lessons.
Included in the discussions are topics about the natural world like topography, the flora and
fauna, the streams, rivers, lakes, seas and oceans, and later the appearance of humans which
catapulted the blossoming of myriad of unique societies and cultures. The unveiling of this
multitudes of cultures, customs and traditions about the life of ancient Filipinos and later on as
vanquished inhabitants of their own homeland could be an instrument of change in our belief
system to accept with open hearts the reality of our “diversity in unity” or perhaps, “unity in
diversity.”
