Case 1: STATE UNIVERSITY BOARDOF REGENTS: What Am I Living for?

Define the Problem

In this case, the problem was started when Mr.Bundoc opposed the proposal of Dr.H.C. Agao to increase the
tuition fee of the students that lead to the rejection by majority of the vote. Dr. Agao cannot accept his defeat so he
used the wife of Mr. Bundoc to get his personal interest that Mr. Bundoc will support his proposed projects.

Areas of Consideration

 In the point of view of Dr. Agao, he offered Mrs. Bundoc to do a catering business inside the University. Mr.
Agao did this thinking that Mr. Bundoc will support his project and unfortunately, he did.
 In the point of view of Mrs. Bundoc, he accepted the offered of Dr. Agao to do catering business in the school
and it was a good deal. Hence, her actions affects/influence the decision of his husband Mr. Bundoc
 In the point of view of Mr. Bundoc, he let others manipulate his decision and support the projects of Dr. Agao.

Proposed Solutions

 Dr. Agao should have accepted that the Board of members reject his proposal and learn more his proposal if it
can be a help the university or the students and not to his personal interests.
 Mrs. Bundoc should have rejected the offer of Dr. Agao or discuss first to her husband that Dr. Agao offered her
a business inside the school.
 Mr. Bundoc should have stand what he thinks was right and should not let others manipulate or influence his
decisions.

Best Solution

The best solution is that Dr. Agao should have accepted that he was rejected by the Board and just forget his
personal interest and think of what’s the best for the school when in fact that he is the president of the university.
Moreover, conflict of interest should not have formed by him and Mrs. Bundoc. There was no manipulation happened in
Mr. Bundoc’s decision to not increase the tuition of the students. He should have been mindful for his actions to
maintain a good relationship to Mr. Bundoc not for his personal interest but for the improvement and success of the
university.

Conclusions/Recommendation

Therefore, Dr. Agao acceptance should have been made so that it doesn’t influence and manipulate the decision
of others and should not affect Mr. Bundocs professional judgments. In addition, Dr. Agao actions is unethical knowing
that he is the president of the university. He should be a good role model to everyone for peace and success of their
organization.
