RADIAN MEASURE -
Aside from degrees, there is another way to measure
angles and it is by radians. In more theoretical work in math-
ematics, radian measure of angles is preferred for it enables
us to treat the trigonometric functions as functions with do-
mains of real numbers, rather than angles.

In general, if θ is a central angle of a circle of radius r, and θ

subtends an arc of length s, then the radian measure of θ is
s/r.

“radians” is not a unit of measure like feet or centimeters.

circumference of a circle is given by C = 2πr, where r is the

radius of the circle.
To convert degrees to radians, multiply the degree measure
by π/180 radian and simplify.

To convert radians to degrees, multiply the radian measure

by 180°/π and simplify.

• If the quotient is even, start your rotation on the posi-

tive x-axis.
• If the quotient is odd, start your rotation on the nega-
tive x-axis.
• If the remainder is equal to 1, the terminal side is
found in the next quadrant from the starting point
(apply correct rotation).
• If the remainder is greater than 1, the terminal side is
found in the 2nd succeeding quadrant from the start-
ing point (apply correct rotation).
• If the remainder is equal to 1, the terminal side is
found in the next quadrant from the starting point
(apply correct rotation).
• If the remainder is greater than 1, the terminal side is
found in the 2nd succeeding quadrant from the start-
ing point (apply correct rotation).

In general, the length s of the arc intercepted on a circle of

radius r by a central angle of measure θ radians is given by
the product of the radius and the radian measure of the an-
gle. s = rθ, where θ is in radians.

Latitude gives the measure of a central angle with vertex at

Earth’s center whose initial side goes through the equator
and whose terminal side goes through the given location.

A sector of a circle is the portion of the interior of a circle

intercepted by a central angle.
Area A of a sector = θ/2π (πr^2) =1/2r^2θ, where θ is in ra-
dians.
