LEARNING OBJECTIVE/s The students will be able to determine the steps in washing clothes

Proper Laundering of Clothes

 Hand washing

1. Prepare all the materials you need such as detergent soap, bleach,
water, pail and basin.
2. Separate white clothes from colored ones, especially those that
bleed.
3. Before washing clothes, check the pockets.
4. Wet each piece at a time a in clean water starting with the white
clothes first, then colored ones.
5. Soak white clothes in a big basin half-filled with water mixed with
detergent and a small amount of bleach for a few minutes.
6. Rub your clothes to remove the dirt. White and heavily soiled
garments need more loosening and thorough washing.
7. Rinse your white clothes thoroughly until water comes our clear.
8. Rinse your colored clothes thoroughly with their wrong sides out. Allow them to drip in dry hangers or in
the clothesline.
9. Dry white and light-colored clothes with their wrong sides out under the sun.
10. Collect dry clothes from the clothesline and fold them neatly.

 Washing clothes using the washing machine

1. Pull the drain hose from the hose hole and leave it that
way while the machine is in operation.
2. Check pockets for loose articles. Clothes worn out
patches or tears should be mended first.
3. Sort the clothes. You should wash white or light-
colored clothes together and dark-colored clothes
together. Clothes should be further sorted according to
their material. Heavy fabrics should be washed together.
4. Fill the wash tub with water up to the proper water
level.
5. Add detergent to your washing machine. Follow the instructions on the detergent box.
6. Load your clothes loosely in to the washing machine. Be careful not to overload.
7. Close the lid and set the controls of your washing machine according to the items you are washing. Set the
other controls according to the weight and durability of your clothing.
8. Turn on your washing machine. Allow it to work through all of the cycles. Wait until it turns off before
you unload the washed laundry.
