Every year during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, the author's family gathers in their native village of Chiplun, Maharashtra to celebrate. They decorate a room with garlands and lights to house the idol of Lord Ganesha. In the evenings, family members go between houses seeking blessings from other Ganesha idols, then return home to perform aarti and enjoy music. The next afternoon, they perform a final puja before immersing the idol in a nearby river, then visit the Maha Laxmi temple to seek blessings before returning to their normal routines.

Every year we go to our native place in Chiplun, Maharashtra.
All the families of our relatives gather there to celebrate the
festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. The idol of Lord Ganesha Is kept in room which is beautifully decorated by garlands and lights. During the night everyone goes around the houses in the village to seek blessings from the other Lord Ganesha idols. Then, all our family members return to our house to do sing the aarti and people come and play drums, table and few other experiments. This goes on till 1 or 2 in the night. The next day’s afternoon we do the final puja of lord ganesha before immersing him in water. We take the idol to a river nearby the house and immerse the idol in the water to bid our good byes. Everyone then goes to the Maha Laxmi temple beside the river to seek blessings as we only go there once a year. Everyone returns back home, where the society’s Ganpati idol stays for 5 days and is then immersed in water. The school vacation ends and we go back to school and our normal life.
