NATIONAL NEWS
1. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has visited the Cairo West Airbase, Egypt (the Gateway to
Africa).
● Both countries also signed an MOU on Defence Cooperation.

2. Ministry of Road Transport has introduced additional safety provisions in the battery
safety standards which will come into effect from October 1, 2022.
● The MoRTH had constituted an expert committee, chaired by Tata Narsingh Rao to
recommend additional safety requirements in the existing battery safety standards notified
under Central Motor Vehicles Rule (CMVR) 1989.

3. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Embassy of
the Netherlands have established the Fast Track Mechanism (FTM) for faster resolution of
investment cases of Dutch companies operating in India.
● Invest India is the executing body of the FTM.
● It will strengthen and assist bilateral efforts to increase mutual investment activities, as well
as support and develop business cooperation between companies in both countries.
● In 2021-22, bilateral trade between the countries amounted to USD 17 billion.

4. Union Cabinet was apprised about the progress under National Health Mission during 2020-
21.

from 74.2% in 2014 to 97.5% in 2020-21
o Lymphatic Filariasis: In 2020-21, among 272 LF endemic districts, 98 districts have
successfully cleared 1 Transmission Assessment Survey (TAS-1) and stopped MDA
and these districts are under Post MDA surveillance.
o Dengue: National target was to sustain a case fatality rate (CFR) <1 per cent. In
2020, it has been sustained at 0.1% as it was in 2019.

5. India has partnered with California state of the USA for research and innovation in the field of
zero-emission vehicles (ZEV).
● California aims to become 100% ZEV by 2035.
● A new India-ZEV Research Centre was developed as part of a collaboration with the
University of California's Davis Institute of Transportation Studies.

6. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of the World’s First CNG
Terminal and of the brownfield port at Bhavnagar, Gujarat.
● The foundation stone of projects worth over ₹5200 crores were laid in Bhavnagar.
● Gujarat was the first state in the country to get an LNG terminal and now the state has
three LNG terminals.
● PM has inaugurated the regional science centre in Bhavnagar.

7. Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises has organized a National SC-ST Hub
Conclave at Ahmedabad, Gujarat to spread awareness about the National SC-ST Hub
(NSSH) Scheme and other Schemes of the Ministry.
● Ministry of MSME has launched the National Scheduled Caste Scheduled Tribe Hub
(NSSH) scheme.
● It is aimed at capacity enhancement and promoting entrepreneurship culture amongst the
SC-ST population for enhancing their participation in public procurement.

8. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the new and upgraded version of the Vande Bharat
Express which will run from Gandhinagar in Gujarat to Mumbai in Maharashtra.
● This is the third Vande Bharat Express in the country – after New Delhi-Varanasi and New
Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express, and comes with several additional features to
enhance passenger comfort as well as safety.

9. Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone and dedicated various
projects worth more than Rs 3400 crores in Surat.
● He launched the Phase-I of road infrastructure works and the main entrance of Diamond
Research and Mercantile (DREAM) City.
● The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Khoj Museum at the Science Centre in Surat.

10. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a multi-phase Operation GARUDA to
dismantle drug networks with international linkages.
● Operation GARUDA seeks to target drug networks with international footprints for action
against handlers, operatives, production zones and support elements.

11. The 6th edition of India Mobile Congress 2022 was organized by the Telecom Department
and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
● Theme - “New digital Universe”
● The 5G telephony service was rolled out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 13 cities
initially.
● These include Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar,
Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Pune, Jamnagar and Gurugram.
● Bharati Airtel has become the first company to launch 5G services in India. It has
launched this services in Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad,
Nagpur and Siliguri.

12. National Green Tribunal has directed the state government of Odisha to revive the
Sukapaika River, a distributary of Mahanadi River, within 6 months.

13. UNESCO has released the "Handmade for the 21st Century: Safeguarding Traditional Indian
Textile" list of 50 exclusive and iconic heritage textile crafts of India.
● Toda embroidery and Sungadi from Tamil Nadu,
● Himroo weaves from Hyderabad and,
● Bandha tie and dye weaving from Sambalpur in Odisha
● Ilkal and Lambadi or Banjara embroidery from Karnataka
● Sikalnayakanpet Kalamkari from Thanjavur
● Kunbi weaves from Goa,
● Mashru weaves and Patola from Gujarat, Himroo from Maharashtra

15. University Grants Commission has announced that the higher educational institutions
(HEIs) across the country will now be allowed to create up to 25% supernumerary seats for
foreign students and will have to adopt a transparent admission process for them.

16. Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), a body under the Department of
Telecommunications, has officially launched Telecom Technology Development Fund
(TTDF) Scheme.
• Purpose - to fund R&D in rural-specific communication technology applications and form
synergies among academia, start-ups, research institutes, and the industry to build and
develop the telecom ecosystem
• The scheme is aligned with the new phase of Amrit Kaal, i.e., Jan Anusandhaan.

17. Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has launched the Swachh Bharat Campaign from
October 1-31.
• Union Minister Jitendra Singh has also launched Special Swachhta Campaign 2.0 to
reduce pendency in the government departments.

18. Ministry of Education has launched the YUVA 2.0 (Young, Upcoming and Versatile
Authors) scheme for mentoring young authors and to train young and budding authors below
the age of 30 to promote reading, writing, and book culture in the country, and project India and
Indian writings globally.
• The theme of the YUVA 2.0 is ‘Democracy (institutions, events, people, constitutional
values past, present, future)’.
• YUVA 2.0 is a part of India@75 Project.
• The National Book Trust is the implementing agency of this scheme. It will publish the
books prepared under the scheme.
• The books will be translated into other Indian languages ensuring the exchange of culture
and literature, thereby promoting ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.

19. University Grants Commission has established the post of Professor of Practice to hire
experts from various sectors, who have experience of 15 years of service.
• A professor of practice can be anyone with a background in a diverse range of areas from
technology, science, social sciences, media, literature, armed forces, law, fine arts, etc.

20. According to a study by the Jal Shakti Ministry, 8% of the rural households in the country
receive water only once a week, while about 74% of them receive it all seven days.
• About 4% of households receive water for 5-6 days in a week and 14% receive at least 3-4
days in a week in India.

21. Fit India Freedom Run 3.0 took place at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium in New
Delhi from October 2-31.
• The third edition was jointly launched with a Fit India Plog Run by Union Minister of Law
and Justice, Shri Kiren Rijiju and Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Anurag
Singh Thakur.

22. ISRO has confirmed the loss of connection with the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) aka
Mangalyaan.
• It was launched in 2013 on the PSLV C-25.

23. Railway Protection Force has launched a month-long campaign named Operation
SAMSAR (Samajik Sarokar) in the month of September.

24. Digital India Conference of State IT Ministers was held at New Delhi.
• Rs 26,000 crore has been approved to install new 25,000 towers in the next 500 days.

25. Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajiv Kumar has launched the radio series “Matdata
Junction”.
• Matdata Junction is a year-long voter awareness programme launched jointly by the
Election Commission of India (ECI) and the All India Radio (AIR).
• This radio series has a total of 52 episodes. It will be broadcasted in 23 languages,
including Hindi, English and other regional languages.

26. National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS) and HelpAge India
are jointly implementing Sarthak to ensure mental well-being of elderly.
• Sarthak is a community-based initiative which will provide nurses, healthcare workers and
volunteers with training on geriatric (senior citizens) mental health.

27. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu has launched herSTART, an initiative of Gujarat
University Startup and Entrepreneurship Council (GUSEC), for supporting women-led
startups in scaling up.
• The platform will help in connecting women startups with various government and private
enterprises.

28. The central government has set up two advisory committees to resolve the challenges in the
steel industry to achieve the target of 300 million tonnes of production capacity by 2030.

29. India's first 4.20-MW wind turbine generator, a single unit with the largest generation
capacity, has been installed in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu.
• It was established Brazilian company WEG Industries Pvt Ltd.

30. Indian Railways has announced to become a net-carbon emission-free industry by 2030 to
contribute to India’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).
• One of the most vital transportation emissions mitigation strategies agreed to by the
Government of India was increasing the share of Indian Railways in the movement of
freight from the current ~35-36% to 45% by 2030.

31. Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and
Entrepreneurship, has launched the Bharatskills Forum, a new feature to allow sharing of
books, notes, videos, a question bank, etc. for skill learners.
• This facility shall act as a digital warehouse for the skilling community by allowing sharing of
contents in various forms like handwritten trainers’ or trainees’ notes, PDFs, scanned
copies, or recorded videos in any language.
• The forum has been launched on the Bharatskills platform. The Bharatskills platform was
launched in 2019 for providing skills concerning Industrial Training Institutes (ITI)
ecosystems.

32. Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy RK Singh has unveiled the
curtain raiser to the 5th Assembly of the International Solar Alliance in New Delhi from
October 17-20, 2022.
• India holds the office of the President of the ISA Assembly.
• The International Solar Alliance is an international organisation with 109 member and
signatory countries.
• ISA aims to attract investment of up to $1 trillion in solar energy by 2030.

33. The central govt has constituted a nine-member Task Force for monitoring Cheetah
introduction in Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh and other suitable designated areas.
• The nine-member task force will include Principal Secretaries, Forests and Tourism of
Madhya Pradesh (Ashok Barnwal), and the Inspector General of NTCA (Dr Amit Mallick).

34. India’s Chandrayaan-2 has mapped the abundance of sodium on Moon for the very first time
using its large area X-ray spectrometer, CLASS.
• The research was published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters.
• CLASS was built at ISRO’s UR Rao Satellite Centre in Bengaluru.

35. NASSCOM Foundation and American Express have partnered to train and upskill 700
women graduates through an employment-linked training project named ‘Women
Empowerment Through Technology’.
• Under this project, both entities are working with two training partners - FUEL (Friends
Union for Energizing Lives) and RCED (Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship) to impart
women with technology-based skill development and entrepreneurship training.
• The training will be provided on various technical courses including cloud and data
analytics, blockchain, Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

36. Modhera village in Gujarat has been declared as India’s first 24x7 solar-powered village.
• Modhera is famous for a centuries-old Sun temple built during the Chalukya.
• PM Modi will inaugurate various development projects worth more than ₹14,600 crores in
Gujarat.

37. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has inaugurated the new Indian High Commission
Chancery in Wellington (capital in New Zealand).

38. Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is organizing Pradhan Mantri
National Apprenticeship Melas (PMNAM) on October 10, 2022, across 280 locations in 28
states and UTs under the Skill India Mission.

39. EAM S Jaishankar has launched "Modi@20: Dreams Meet Delivery" book in Auckland,
New Zealand.
• External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar participated in the Kiwi Indian Hall of Fame
Awards 2022 in Auckland.
• EAM S Jaishankar hosted the 13th Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue with his
Australian counterpart Penny Wong in Canberra.

40. Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has launched the Tele Mental Health
Assistance and Networking Across States (Tele-MANAS) initiative at the National
Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru.
• Government of India announced National Tele Mental Health Programme (NTMHP) in
the Union Budget 2022-23.
• Purpose of Tele-MANAS – to provide free tele-mental health services all over the country
round the clock, particularly catering to people in remote or under-served areas
• The programme includes a network of 23 tele-mental health centres of excellence, with
NIMHANS being the nodal centre and the International Institute of Information
Technology-Bangalore (IIITB) for providing technology support.
• IIT-Bengaluru and National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHRSC) will provide the
technical support.
• The Union Government aims to open at least one Tele-MANAS Cell in each State/UT.
• A toll-free, 24/7 helpline number (14416) has been set up across the country allowing
callers to select the language of choice for availing services. Service is also accessible at 1-
800-91-4416.

41. Sustainable Mountain Development Summit-XI (SMDS-XI) is being held at Leh, Ladakh UT
from 10-12 October 2022.
• Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shri Bhupender Yadav
attended the inaugural session of the summit.
• Theme – ‘Harnessing tourism for sustainable mountain development’
• Purpose – to reduce the negative impacts of tourism while harnessing its positive
contributions to building climate and socio-ecological resilience and sustainability

42. The office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) under the Ministry of Textiles
has launched an Indian handicraft portal through which all eligible artisans can apply online
for marketing events to support the artisans in selling their produce.
• The online process will provide an equal, fair, and transparent opportunity to all artisans.

43. Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) hosted Conference on
B20 Indonesia Global Dialogue in partnership with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in
New Delhi.
• Business 20 (B20), formed in 2010, is the official G20 dialogue forum with the global
business community to spur economic growth and development.
• Dialogues were held on (i)Trade & Investment (ii) Energy, Sustainability & Climate (iii)
Digitisation and (iv) Finance and Infrastructure.
• G-20 is a group of 19 Countries + EU, together representing around 85% of global GDP,
75% of global trade, and 60% of the world’s population.
• The dialogue will pave the way to the B20 final summit that will take place on 13-14
November 2022 at Indonesia.

44. The 2nd edition of the UN World Geo Spatial International Congress was organised in
Hyderabad, Telangana by the Department of Science and Technology and United Nations
Committee of Experts on Geo Spatial Information Management.
• Theme- Geo-Enabling the Global Village: No One Should Be Left Behind
• The UN Economics and Social Council (ECOSOC) created the Committee of Experts
on Global Geo Spatial Information Management in 2011. The committee operates under
the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
• The first edition of the UN World Geo Spatial information Congress was held in 2018 in
China.

45. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has unveiled a 15-feet high statue of late socialist icon
Jayaprakash Narayan (politician of Janata Party) at his ancestral village of Sitab Diara in
Saran district of Bihar on the occasion of his 120th birth anniversary.
• The Dream of Revolution: A Biography of Jayaprakash Narayan is authored by Dr
Bimal Prasad and Sujata Prasad.

46. Tipu Express, a train running between Bengaluru and Mysuru, has been renamed as the
‘Wodeyar Express’ by the railway ministry.

47. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Mahakal Lok corridor at Mahakaleshwar
temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

• The corridor is part of the first phase of the Rs 850 crore Mahakaleshwar Temple
Corridor Development Project.
• It is one of the largest corridors (900-metre-long) in the country. It spreads around the old
Rudrasagar Lake.
• The Mahakal Path contains 108 stambhs (pillars) which depict Anand Tandav Swaroop
(Dance form) of Lord Shiva.

48. Union Cabinet has approved Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East
Region (PM-DevINE) scheme for the remaining four years of the 15th Finance Commission
from 2022-23 to 2025-26.
• PM-DevINE is a Central Sector Scheme with 100% Central funding.
• It will be implemented by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region
(DoNER).
• Budget – Rs.6,600 crore
• Purpose –
(a) Fund infrastructure convergently, in the spirit of PM Gati Shakti;
(b) Support social development projects based on felt needs of the NER;
(c) Enable livelihood activities for youth and women;
(d) Fill the development gaps in various sectors.

49. Tamil Nadu government notified India's first Kaduvur slender loris sanctuary in the
country, covering 11,806 hectares in Karur and Dindigul districts.
• The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List categorizes
Slender loris as an endangered animal.
• These endangered primates are listed under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act of
India, 1972.

50. Union Government has formed a 3-member Commission of Inquiry, headed by former
Chief Justice of India, Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, to examine the issue of whether Scheduled
Caste (SC) status can be accorded to Dalits who have converted to religions other than
Sikhism or Buddhism over the years.

51. National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) has launched the
Responsible AI Hub and resource kit to ensure the responsible adoption of AI at scale.
• Partners of NASSCOM in this initiative – Fractal Analytics, Microsoft, Deloitte, Tata
Consultancy Services and IBM Research
• The resource kit comprises sector-agnostic tools and guidance to enable the business to
leverage AI by prioritising user trust and safety.

52. The 16th edition of FICCI HEAL (annual health conference) has been organized at FICCI
premise in New Delhi from October 10-12, 2022.
• Theme – Healthcare Transformation: Driving India’s Economic Growth

53. Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has launched ‘Maa Bharati Ke Sapoot’ (MBKS) website
for enabling citizens to contribute for the Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund.
• AFBCWF is a Tri service fund, utilised for grant of immediate financial assistance of ex-
gratia, to the Next of Kin and dependents of Battle Casualties.

54. Union Cabinet has approved amendments to the Multi State Cooperative Societies Act
(MSCS). The Act was last amended in 2002.
• The amendments make the functioning of the board of such cooperatives transparent —
registration becomes simpler and seats can be reserved for women, scheduled caste and
scheduled tribe candidates in coop boards.
• Also, a Cooperative Election Authority can be formed to conduct free, fair and timely
elections to coops.
• There are around 100 multi-state cooperative diaries and 70 multi-state cooperative banks.
The Bill will incorporate provisions of the 97th Constitutional Amendment.

55. Central Government has formed a four-member panel of experts, chaired by Dr Y K Gupta
(Vice Chairperson, Standing National Committee on Medicines).
• Purpose - to examine the details and adverse event reports received from the WHO on the
deaths of 66 children in The Gambia being linked potentially to the four made-in-India
cough syrups

• The cough syrups are Promethazine Oral Solution BP, KOFEXNALIN Baby Cough Syrup,
MaKOFF Baby Cough Syrup and MaGrip n Cold Syrup, manufactured by Maiden
Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Sonepat.

56. Computer Emergency Response Team India (CERT-In), in collaboration with Power-
Computer Security Incident Response Team, have conducted the "PowerEx" cyber
security exercise for 193 power sector companies.
• Theme - Defending Cyber-Induced Disruption in IT and OT Infrastructure

57. Central government has accorded infrastructure status to data centres with more than 5
megawatts capacity of data processing.
• This decision was announced in the union budget for 2022 to 23.

58. Ministry of Textile has signed a cooperation agreement with United Nations Environment
Program on "mainstreaming sustainability and circularity in the textiles sector".
• Under the agreement, both parties will promote sustainable practices in the textile and
apparel sector to minimise the negative environmental impacts of the industry.

59. Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has authorised Google Cloud
to use cloud technology to address challenging issues for governmental organisations.
• Competitors of Google, including Microsoft, IBM, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and
Oracle, have already been given the approval by MeitY to acquire and launch digital
transformation projects.

60. President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu has inaugurated ‘PARAM KAMRUPA’
Supercomputer facility at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati.
• The Param Kamrupa, one of its kind supercomputer in the North East region, was installed
under the National Supercomputing Mission.

61. Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of Bulk Drug Park and the
Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Una, Himachal Pradesh.
• The central govt has given the approval to establish three bulk drug parks at Una district-
Himachal Pradesh, Bharuch district-Gujarat, and Godavari District-Andhra Pradesh.

• The parks are being established under the “Promotion of Bulk Drug Parks”.
• Launched in 2020 by the Ministry of Chemical and Fertilisers, the scheme aims to
establish 3 bulk drug parks at a cost of Rs 3000 crores (to be borne by the govt).
• PM has also launched the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-III to upgrade 3,000 km of
rural roads in the state.
• Vande Bharat Express train from Una to Delhi has also been started.

62. The 11th volume of the Report of the Official Language Committee, headed by Home
Minister Amit Shah, has been submitted to President Droupadi Murmu in September.
• The report mandated the use of Hindi as the official language in the Hindi-Speaking states.
• The non-Hindi speaking states will have to translate their High Court judgements in Hindi
for the use of other Hindi-speaking states.
• The Committee has made around 100 recommendations, including that Hindi should be the
medium of instruction in IITs, IIMs, and central universities in the Hindi-speaking states.

63. The Indian government is considering a proposal from Sri Lanka to export a number of gaurs
(Indian Bisons) to revive the population of Gavaras that have been extinct on the island since
the end of the 17th century.
• If the project is cleared, it would be the first such agreement between India and Sri Lanka,
and part of a global trend of “wildlife or zoological diplomacy”

64. The PM Kisan Samman Sammelan 2022 will be organized in the Indian Agricultural
Research Institute, New Delhi on October 17.
• On this occasion, Shri Modi will release Rs. 16,000 Crores under the PM-KISAN scheme as

65. 38th meeting of the Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai
Cooperation Organisation (RATS SCO) was organized by India in its capacity as the chair

tracking system, is being integrated with pension seva portal of SBI to provide all

• The Anubhav portal was launched by Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare in
2015 to provide an opportunity for retiring government employee to share their experience

72. Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated Asia's largest
Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plant in Lehragaga, in Punjab's Sangrur.
• The plant has been commissioned with a foreign direct investment of approximately Rs.
220 crores by Verbio AG, one of Germany's leading bio-energy companies.

73. Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has started the distribution of PMJAY-MA Yojana
Ayushman cards in Gujarat.
• ‘Mukhyamantri Amrutam (MA)’ scheme was launched in 2012 to shield poor citizens
from the huge costs of medical treatment and illness.
• In the year 2014, ‘MA’ Yojana was extended to cover families with an annual income limit of
Rs. 4 lakhs. The scheme was further extended to several other groups as well and later
renamed as Mukhyamantri Amrutam Vatsalya (MAV) Yojana.
• With the launch of the AB-PMJAY, Gujarat integrated MA / MAV Yojana with the AB-PM-
JAY scheme in 2019 with the name PMJAY-MA Yojana and the beneficiaries under

• The ISA Assembly approved the Solar Facility, a payment guarantee mechanism which is
expected to stimulate investments into solar through two financial components: Solar
Payment Guarantee Fund and Solar Insurance Fund.
• This facility will crowdsource investments from various donors across the globe and
proposed projects in Africa will be able to purchase payment guarantees or partial
insurance premium from these funds.
• The ISA Assembly also approved the SolarX Grand Challenge, which is planned to focus
on innovation and start-ups, particularly decentralized solar energy applications that
contribute to livelihoods, such as agriculture, health, and small-scale industrial applications.

76. Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar has created an
accelerator fund of Rs 500 crore for Agri-Startups.

• The new 5+3+3+4 curricular structure integrates Early Childhood Care and Education
for all children of ages 3 to 8.
• Balvatika Classes for students in the age groups of 3+, 4+ and 5+ years of age is being
introduced in a set of 49 Kendriya Vidyalayas.
• Since more than 85% of a child’s cumulative brain development occurs prior to the age of 6,

96. India is planning to expand its regional satellite navigation system i.e., Navigation with
Indian Constellation (NaVIC) to increase its use in the civilian sector and also by ships and

• The NaVIC uses seven satellites to provide real-time positioning and timing services in
India and an area extending up to 1,500 km from the country's borders.
• At present, some of the seven satellites of NaVIC have failed. Therefore, ISRO has sought
govt’s approval to launch 12 satellites to expand the system and improve its coverage.

Congress organised by the SatCom Industry Association in New Delhi on the theme of

1. Andaman and Nicobar Islands became India's first state/UT to achieve a 100% coverage of
precautionary dose of Covid-19.

2. Haryana will develop the world's largest jungle safari park (spread over 10,000-acre) in the
Aravalli range in Gurugram and Nuh districts.

3. Kerala's new draft industrial policy has been launched at attracting investments, promoting
employment generation, and fostering entrepreneurship.
● The new policy focuses on the State's traditional sectors as well as the sunrise sectors
including Artificial Intelligence, hi-tech farming, value-added rubber products, medical
equipment, biotechnology, graphene, electric vehicles, and robotics.
● Incentives – 10% investment subsidy on fixed capital for non-MSMEs, subject to a
maximum of ₹10 crore and 100% State GST reimbursement for capital investment for five
years for non-MSMEs.
● Annually, the government will subsidise 50% of the stipend for 1,000 apprentices, subject to
a maximum of Rs 5,000 per apprentice for six months. Another major incentive will be the
100% electricity duty exemption for MSMEs for five years.

5. Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel has launched the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Industrial
Parks (MGRIP) scheme to develop ‘gauthans’ (cow shelters) as rural industrial parks for
livelihood generation.
• The state government has already set up gauthans in over 8,000 villages under its flagship
scheme Suraji Gaon Yojana (village good governance scheme).
• Cow dung procurement is being carried out in these gauthans at ₹2 per kilogram under
Godhan Nyaya Yojana and the dung is being used to prepare vermi-compost.

6. Punjab Legislative Assembly has passed the Punjab State Vigilance Commission
(Repeal) Bill, 2022 to dissolve the state vigilance commission.
• The main function of the commission was to inquire into complaints against public servants
under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, and Prevention of Corruption
(Amendment) Act, 2018.

21. An Ethiopian delegation led by the country’s Agricultural Minister Dr Meles Mekonen Yimer
has visited Andhra Pradesh to study the first-of-its kind Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs),
which have been set up by the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government.
• The Ethiopian delegation will visit several RBKs and understand how they function.
• Ethiopia and Andhra Pradesh govt have signed an MOU to provide training to Ethiopian
officials on operation of RBKs, and share knowledge about the farming systems in the
state.
• The RBKs (set up for the first time in the country) are single-window service centres for
farmers that have been set up across the state of Andhra Pradesh.
• RBKs sell pre-tested quality seeds, certified fertilisers and animal feed.
• Farmers can purchase or hire farm equipment, and even sell their produce at the prevailing
MSP in the RBKs.

22. World Bank has extended an unconditional loan of $250 million to the Supporting
Andhra’s Learning Transformation (SALT) project.
• SALT aims to transform the state’s school education system by strengthening the quality of
foundational learning by improving teacher professional development, classroom-based
assessments and early childhood education.
• Leadership For Equity has been selected as a technical partner for SALT.
• The project was launched in 2021 for a period of 5 years.

26. Madhya Pradesh Wildlife Board has approved a new tiger reserve named Durgavati Tiger
Reserve.
• This new reserve will be home for the tigers of Panna Tiger Reserve (PTR), one-fourth of

the cost of Rs 22,400 crore in the state.
• Jakson Group is a solar energy company in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
• Jakson Green will set up the 3,65,000 tons per annum green hydrogen and green ammonia

35. Meghalaya govt has signed an MOU with the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation

36. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has launched a common credit portal named ‘SAFAL'

Cooperative Marketing Federation of India has signed an MOU to promote millets towards

2. Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) has organised the ‘Kisan Sampark Yatra’
during September 27-29 in the rice growing region of Haryana and Punjab to obtain farmers’
feedback on the three newly released IARI Basmati varieties.
• The IARI had distributed 1 kg per acre seeds of the newly developed disease resistant
Basmati rice to farmers during the Krishi Vigya Mela held at Pusa, New Delhi earlier this
year for cultivation.

3. India has emerged as the world's largest producer and consumer of sugar and its second-
largest exporter in the sugar season (October-September) 2021-22.

4. Department of Food and Public Distribution, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and
Public Distribution (Minister: Piyush Goyal) has extended the timeline for disbursement of
loans under the “Scheme for extending financial assistance to sugar mills for
enhancement and augmentation of ethanol production capacity” till March 31, 2023.
• The scheme was first notified in 2018 to facilitate entrepreneurs to complete their projects.
• The ministry has asked the beneficiaries of the scheme to complete the projects within two
and a half years from the date of disbursement of the first instalment of loan from the bank.
• Currently, interest subvention at 6% per annum or 50% of the rate of interest charged by
banks, whichever is lower, is available to sugar mills for five years, including a one-year
moratorium.
• Ethanol production capacities are required to be enhanced to about 1,016 crore litres
per annum to achieve a 20% blending target by 2025.

5. According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), India's sugar production is
projected to be 36.5 million tonnes in the 2022-23 marketing season (October-September).
• The increase would be equivalent to 2% compared to the year-ago period.

• Sugar output in Uttar Pradesh is estimated to be 12.3 million tonnes, Maharashtra at 15


million tonnes and Karnataka at 7 million tonnes during the 2022-23 season.
• Since the target of 12% blending is expected to be achieved, sugar diversion towards the
production of ethanol is estimated to be higher by 32% at 45 lakh tonnes in the current
season as against 34 lakh tonnes during the 2021-22 season.
• A total of about 545 crore litres of ethanol would be required and supplied during the
current season.

6. Central Govt has increased the Minimum Support Price for six rabi crops, which are lentil
(Masur), wheat, barley, gram, rapeseed/mustard and safflower for the 2023-24 marketing
season.

7. Australia has approved the commercial cultivation of the genetically modified Indian
mustard species called ‘Brassica juncea’ for herbicide tolerance.
• It is the first time a genetically modified variety of Indian mustard has received commercial
approval anywhere in the world.
• So far, the canola (Brassica napus) is perhaps the only genetically modified mustard variety
that has been cleared for commercial application.

8. The Central Govt has officially restricted the use of the widely used herbicide named
glyphosate, fearing risk to human and animal health.
• From now, glyphosate will be applied only through pest control operators (PCOs).

• At present, Indian Army has heavy tanks like T-72 and T-90.
• The Sprut can be transferred by military cargo planes, landing ships, or by parachuting with
a crew. The tank has a range of 500 kilometres without refuelling.

• The USISCEP was launched based on the US-India Climate and Clean Energy Agenda

• The USISCEP focuses on 5 pillars – responsible oil and gas pillar, power and energy

18. China has launched its first space-based solar telescope named Advanced Space-based
Solar Observatory (ASO-S), nicknamed Kuafu-1, aboard the Long March-2D carrier rocket
from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.
• ASO-S is China’s first full-scale satellite dedicated to researching the Sun.
• It is the world’s first solar telescope capable of simultaneously monitoring both solar flares
and coronal mass ejections.

• UNDP is implementing Project Excel in Jamnagar and Dwaraka Devbhumi districts of

etc.

35. Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce
and Industry, has launched Credit Guarantee Scheme for Startups (CGS(CGSS) for
providing credit guarantees to loans extended by Scheduled Commercial Banks, NBFC and
SEBI registered Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs).
• Purpose - to provide credit guarantee up to a specified limit against loans extended by
Member Institutions (MIs) to finance eligible borrowers viz. Startups
• If the sanctioned loan amount is up to Rs 3 crores, the credit guarantee would be 80%. For
the amount of up to Rs 3-5 crores, the guarantee cover would be 75%, and 65% for the
loan between Rs 5-10 crores per borrower.
• The umbrella-based guarantee cover will provide a guarantee to Venture Debt Funds
(VDF) registered under AIF.

• The framework provides a definition of the crypto assets, crypto entities, and crypto
data that needs to be reported.
• Entities -The framework mandates the crypto asset firms (including crypto exchanges and
intermediaries like brokers) to report to the country in which they operate.
• Assets- The framework defines crypto assets as any assets that are held and transferred in
a decentralized manner without the involvement of traditional financial intermediaries. The
crypto assets include crypto derivatives, stable coins, and non-fungible tokens. The
framework does not include Central Bank digital currency and cryptography entities.
• Data- exchanges between crypto assets and Fiat currency, exchanges between one or

48. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that managing directors (MDs) and chief
executive officers (CEOs) of asset reconstruction companies (ARCs) cannot have more
than 3 terms in office, with each term not exceeding five years.
• In addition, the retirement age of CEOs will be 70 years.
• Requirement of net-owned funds (NOFs) for ARCs has been increased to Rs 300 crore,

exposures of any entity to prevent losses due to heightened volatility in the forex market.
• The RBI has, from time to time, issued several guidelines, instructions and directives to the

borrowed from banks.
• These instructions shall come into force from January 1, 2023.

50. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has allowed standalone primary dealers (SPD) to offer all
