Main outputs: • A municipal plan & tools to recycle urban storm water,including: setting up GIS DB; awareness campaign for the
efficient management of water
• Innovative technologies and solutions for USW reuse shared among public and private sector players in Gabès and
other Tunisian and Mediterranean cities
• Three innovative USW reuse pilot projects developed, scaled up, monitored and results and impacts assessed
• Results of the project capitalised and disseminated

Partners: Associations: Oasis Ferkla Association for the Environment & Heritage (AOFEP), Migration and Development
Association
Communities: The customary bodies (Ljmâat); local development associations; the Association of Water Users;
occupational bodies; elected officials and technical executives from local authorities.
Research institutions: Universities, researchers and students.
Institutional stakeholders: The National Agency for the Development of Oasis zones and the Argan tree; Water
Basin Agencies, and the Competence Center on Climate Change, 4C Morocco).

Specific objectives: ▪ Foster and support the development of IWRM plans


▪ Guide and support young graduates/oasis researchers towards research/development and green
entrepreneurship
▪ Provide support to set-up of - & technical & financial support to, at least 1 priority project in each oasis;
▪ Facilitate the scaling up of national and regional policies in terms of efficient management of water resource

▪ About ten young researchers involved in research work on IWRM in the Oasis environment

Specific objectives: To strengthen water resource management through an innovative water management model for agriculture in the
Gaza Strip
Main outputs: ▪ new model of TWWR & irrigation providing efficient irrigation to targeted farmers through recovery wells around
the TWW infiltration basin in Al Fukhary
▪ Innovative climate-smart agriculture models promoted, and agriculture inputs provided to targeted farmers
▪ Irrigation and CC challenges are addressed through evidence-based advocacy actions
▪ Farmers and communities are better informed about health and environmental knowledge, practices and safety
procedures related to RTWWR
▪ Sustainable and cost-efficient governance model operating with high quality control standards by committed
farmers and relevant stakeholders
▪ Stakeholders and actors in Gaza, the West Bank and the MENA region exchange key learnings of the model and
the approaches used to demonstrate the feasibility and replicability of climate smart agriculture and efficient use
of water.

Sahrawi refugee camps 1/3

Country: Algeria Target area: Sahrawi refugee camps -Tindouf

Specific objectives: Strengthen the efficient use of water through the use of innovative irrigation systems – hydroponics, Waterboxx,
Growboxx, hydroretainers – with the aim of strengthening agricultural production in refugee camps

Main outputs: ▪ 4 innovative irrigation techniques are adapted to the local context, their results are rigorously measured, the
experiments results are scaled and disseminated
▪ 250 young Sahrawi refugees acquire enhanced technical capacities to promote, install and / or maintain
innovative irrigation systems
▪ 100 vulnerable households have an improved access to irrigation water thanks to the establishment of such
systems and the dissemination of innovative irrigation techniques, and benefit from water-efficient farming
techniques
▪ The irrigation networks of 3 gardens in the region are strengthened and maintained for better performance and
more efficient use of water.

Specific objectives: To promote the adoption of innovative adaptation solution on water-use efficiency linked to sustainable
irrigation & crop production in the Al-Shouf Biosphere Reserve (SBR).
Main outputs: ▪ Rehabilitation of 3 ponds (90,000m3)1 and of the irrigation scheme (piping) serving at least 15ha
▪ Installation of Blue Tentacle technology to ensure precise distribution of water for plant under given
environmental conditions
▪ Creation of a water management manual for the system installed in the project area
▪ Trainings and capacity building with farmers, cooperatives, local and national authorities
▪ Creation & implementation of communication and awareness raising campaigns for farmers and
CSOs at local, national and international level
▪ Production of scientific papers for impacts’ evaluation and results dissemination.

Specific objectives: • To contribute to the reduction of water losses in the supply system of Khan Younis Municipality (KYM)
• To improve water resources management and efficiency through Smart Water Networks pilots in KYM

Main outputs: • Output 1: Water losses in KYM system are quantifiably reduced by implementation of District Metered Areas
(DMA).
- Replacement of derelict pipelines,
- Isolation valves between proposed DMAs; pressure sensors
- Installation of new pressure reducing valves in the DMAs

• Output 2: Reduction of water losses is optimized through the test, installation, and evaluation of smart
sensors1 and development of smart water networks (SWANs) pilots
- 40 digital flow meters to monitor the flow and pressure in the proposed SWAN areas
