Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
Let us pray first. May I request the
chairperson of the class to lead the KLL
prayer?
(The chairperson will lead the KLL prayer.)
God, our loving father, make Kolehiyo ng
Lungsod ng Lipa an instrument for spreading
Your commandments
“Love one another just as I love you.”
As one family, we dedicate this day to You
We offer everything we do to worship You, to
praise You, to glorify You and to give You thanks
Direct our actions through faith, so that in
everything we may act as true disciples of
Christ;
Through hope, so that we may not be
discouraged but continue to do God’s will even
though it is difficult at times;
Through love so that we may love you and our
neighbors.
This day, let our action begins and end with your
inspiration.
Amen.
2. Greetings
Good Day, BSED 3A Math!
Good Day, Ma’am.
How have you been?
(Answers may vary.)
We’re doing great, Ma’am.
That’s good to hear then.

3. Checking of attendance
Now, let us check the attendance. Ms.
chairperson, do we have absentees for this
afternoon?
I’m glad to report that everybody is present for
today’s class.
Great! I am very much pleased to know
that everybody is present for the
impartation of a new set of knowledge
today.

Before we actually proceed I just have a

few things to remind you for this virtual
class:
- Turn on your cameras especially those
who are privileged enough to do so.
- Turn off your microphones unless you
want to ask or add something to the
discussion.
- Stay in a comfortable learning
environment with a secured internet
connection. Are the virtual rules clear
to everyone?
Yes, Ma’am.
Alright!
4. Review of Past Lesson
Before we formally open a new lesson, can
somebody cite what was our previous
topic?
(Answer may vary.)

Good job! Any additional takeaways?

(Answers may vary.).

Impressive! It’s nice knowing that you are

really retaining the important details of the
previous lesson. Keep it up!
Thank you, Ma’am.
B. Developmental Activities

1. Motivation
With that, let us energize you again for a
new lesson to be imparted by having a
quick icebreaker entitled “I got this; We
got this!”. I have here a periodic table of
elements.

(The teacher will present the periodic

table.)

Now, using this table you will complete the

equivalent symbol for each selected
element that will be presented later on.
After completing the corresponding
symbols for each element, gather all the
letters that you have added to complete
each element and try to guess the hidden
words out of those added letters. Utter the
magic word “I got it!” once you already
deciphered the hidden word. Are my
instructions clear? Yes, Ma’am.

Alright! Let’s start then.

(The teacher will present the selected

elements.)

Beryllium = B_ = e
Palladium= P_ = d
Lutetium= L_ = u
Calcium= _a = c
Barium= B_ = a
Tantalum= _a = t
Silicon= S_ = i
Polonium= P_ = o
Neodymium= _d = n
I got this! Education, Ma’am.
Precisely! That is correct. Let us now move
on to the second set.

Seaborgium= _g = S
Platinum= _t = P
Radium= R_ = a
Sodium= _a = N
Lithium= L_ = i
Arsenic= A_ = s
Mercury= _g = H

I got this! Spanish, Ma’am.

There you go! That is correct.

Today, we are going to talk about the

education in our country during the
Spanish period.
2. Activity

Video Observation
Now, for our first activity I’ll be
presenting a short video clip. What you’re
going to do is to observe and listen to the
video as it narrates and speaks about the
education here in our country amidst the
Spanish era.

Are we clear with that?

Yes, Ma’am.
(The teacher will present the video clip.)
https://youtu.be/LjlC3O7MvE

What have you noticed in the video?

(Answers may vary.)
The video intricately discussed and elucidated
the education that prevailed in the Philippines
during the Spanish period.

Precisely! That is correct.

3. Analysis
Now, based from the activity you’ve had,
what can you say about the type of
education that has occurred in the
Philippines during the Spanish era?
(Answers may vary.)
The education during the Spanish period was
mostly religion oriented and was controlled by
the Roman Catholic church.

Impressive. The emphasis of the education

system before was on religion and based
from the video that you have carefully
watched how can you compare the
Philippine education even before the
Spaniards came and when they actually
came?
(Answers may vary.)
Philippine education before the Spaniards ruled
the education system here was informal and
unstructured given that it was focused on
teaching practical knowledge by the parents.
Nonetheless, the education system during
Spanish period was mainly religious-based.
There you go! When Spaniards came, they
were actually surprised that Filipinos has
their own writing system. This alphabet is
called what?
The “Alibata” or Baybayin script.

Good job! That is correct. Filipinos had a

Baybayin script.

(The teacher will present the Baybayin

script.)

This shocked the Spaniards and they

started building colonies which included a
school and a church. Who built this
colonies according to the video?
The Spanish friars and missionaries, Ma’am.

Alright! That is correct.

Now, can you identify who were the first

teachers during that era and what was
their main purpose of educating the
Filipinos?
The priests were the first teachers and they
educate the Filipinos to convert them into
Catholicism.

Precisely! It’s all for the religion.

In line with that, come to think of the

generalization of the video you’ve
watched. All in all, the Spanish education
system that was brought in the Philippines
was meant to what?
(Answers may vary.)
It was meant to keep the natives faithful in order
to maintain the Church’s authority over the lives
of the colonized Filipinos or was regarded as the
“Indios”.
Exactly the main gist of the education
system during that era! Good job!

Do you have any queries or clarifications

regarding the education we had during the
Spanish period?
None, Ma’am.
Great!
4. Abstraction
Fulfilled with the discussion, once again
what type of education system did the
Philippines experienced during the
Spanish period?
(Answers may vary.)
A religious-oriented system which has a main
goal of maintaining faithfulness to the Church
serving as the authority.
Alright! That is correct.

How about the type of education before

they came?
(Answers may vary.)
The Philippine education was informal and
unstructured considering that it only had
practical knowledge but despite of that, Filipinos
shocked the Spaniards by having their own
writing system which is the Baybayin script.
Impressive! And this era has built what?
(Answers may vary.)
Spanish friars and missionaries has built
colonies which included a church and a school.
There you go! These Spanish friars were
the first what?
(Answers may vary.)
They were the first teachers who mainly taught
to convert the “Indios” to Catholicism.
Very good! That is correct.
With that, on top of everything, what was
the highlight of the Spanish education
system that was enforced in the Philippine
education?
(Answers may vary.)
It was meant to keep the natives or the Filipinos
faithful in order to maintain the Church’s
authority over the lives of the colonized
Filipinos or was radically considered as the
“Indios”.

Very well said!

Now, just for a simple weigh in. How would

you describe the changes in the Philippine
education since the Spanish period until
now?
(Answers may vary.)
Before, when we were in the Spanish colony, the
education had a limited and irrelevant
curriculum with inadequate instructional
materials and facilities unlike know that we
have an organized and relevant curriculum that
is appropriate for each grade that has still the
integration of practical knowledge despite of the
modern advances. It was a drastic change
indeed.
Excellent! And why do you think you need
to be cognizant of the difference of the
education system during the Spanish
period and the present?
(Answers may vary.)
It is for us to appreciate the education we have
right now and be inspired to study hard
considering that we have academic freedom
right now unlike before in that particular period.

That’s good! Your assertion is indeed

impressive.
5. Application
Alright, now we’re bound to your last
activity and I grouped the class into two
teams.

(The teacher will give the groupings.)

Within your groups, have a brainstorming

with a goal of constructing a 1-2-minute
song encompassing the salient words and
events during the Spanish period. You can
base the tone of your song in any trending
TikTok sounds/songs.

Are my instructions clear to everyone’s

end?
Yes, Ma’am.
I’ll be giving you an exact five minutes to
do the activity but before that let me
present to you the rubrics for this activity.

(The teacher will present the rubrics.)

Creativity– 25%
Vocabulary – 10%
Organization – 15%
Content – 25%
Delivery – 25%

A total of 100%

Is everything that has been stated clear?

Yes, Ma’am.
Alright. Your five minutes starts now.
(The students will do the activity.)
Okay time’s up. Team 1 you may take the
floor.
(The team 1 will present.)
Impressive! Let’s give Team 1 a big hand.
And lastly, Team 2 it’s your turn!
(The team 2 will present.)
Awesome! Let’s all give Team 2 a round of
applause.

Everyone had been great composers and

has delivered amazing presentations. And
with that, Team 1 will get a fine grade of
___ while Team 2 will receive a grade of ___.
Congratulations class!

5. SPANISH

V. VALUING
“The goal of education is the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination of truth.”
-John Fitzgerald Kennedy
The quote simply puts an emphasis to the fact that humans has their basic or primary knowledge already
and it just needs to be advanced within the confines of school. It necessitates advancement alongside with
the act of informing them with all the truth and reality and not controlling or dictating them on what to
do just like what the Spanish friars did to the Filipino natives before. Their education is merely not to
educate but to convert Filipinos to Catholicism. And that’s definitely the wrong definition they could ever
give to “education”. We need to understand how the education was changed from then until now so as to
establish emphasis and importance to what we have now that is lacked before in terms of education.

VI. ASSIGNMENT
In a whole sheet of yellow paper, using a venn diagram compare and contrast the education
system in the Philippines during the Spanish period and in the present time.
