Suppose each station has 24 channels which are multiplexed in TDM to transmit as one carrier using
QPSK modulation scheme. Given the transmit bit rate of 1.54 Mbps, 20% filter roll off factor and over
and above that 20% guard band factor. Given the required C/N of individual carrier to be 5.5 dB, and
total C/N0 which the communication can support for the successful operation of one full transponder is
81 dBHz, the evaluate the following for one transponder,
A. Number of FDMA carriers that can be supported by the transponder
B. Total number of channels that can transmitted in the network

2. The maximum EIRP of a transponder of bandwidth 36 MHz is 50 dBW and the transponder has
multiple carriers each of bandwidth 10 kHz for transmission of voice signals. Given that the receive
station G/T is -10 dB/K, FSL is 192 dB, and some misc. losses of 6.6 dB. Each individual carrier
requires 45 dBHz C/N0 for transmission of signal. Estimate the number of carriers that can be
supported by the transponder.

3. Consider a case when a transponder with 40 Watts of saturated output power and an output backoff of
3 dB has 3 carriers in FDMA scheme. Consider a non-uniform bandwidth allocation for the 3 carriers
given as follows --- Station A: 15 MHz; Station B: 10 MHz; Station C: 5 MHz. Find the power level for
each carrier at the output of the transponder.
