Background

Sugary drinks can provide a serious health danger to children in schools when they start to

reopen their doors. The statistical analysis in this study will focus on "The impact of sugary

drinks on Sydney Pagon Stem Academy students' health." Over one thousand (1000) students

attend Sydney Pagon STEM Academy, which is located in Elm District, Brae's River P.O., St.

Elizabeth.

Problem Statement

Students health are affected by the sugary content of the drinks/juices they consume on a daily

basis.

Research Objectives

To find out the severity of the effects sugary drinks/juices have on students at Sydney Pagan

Stem Academy.

Methodology

Twenty surveys were distributed to students by the researcher during their lunch break. Each

student was given the identical questionnaire to complete, and all of the surveys were collected

after lunch. The researcher thinks that employing a questionnaire to gather data might speed up

the data collection process overall.

Cooperation between students in regards to responding to and sending back the questionnaires to

the researcher is the one significant issue the researcher will face when doing the research. The

researcher will need to make sure that all questionnaires are collected as soon as they are

completed in order to avoid loss or harm to the survey instrument.

influences their choice when choosing their favorite beverage, 33% of the respondent’s chose
fruit juice when choosing their favorite beverage, 0% of the respondents chose vegetable juice

sugary drinks, while 45% of the respondents say they felt lazy after drinking sugary drinks, 25%
of the respondents say they felt sleepy after drinking sugary drinks whi0% of the respondents say

Conclusion

Sugary drinks affect the health of most students mainly causing hyperactivity and weight gain.

The researcher believes reducing our preference for sweet beverages will require concerted

action in our high school structure starting from markets in the beverage industry, government

investment as well as from our school.

Recommendation

Some recommendations that the researcher would like to put forward are:

 Increase the price of unhealthy juice and reduce the price of the healthy juice.

 In early 2019, the government implemented a policy to restrict certain types of sugary

drinks that were sold in schools. Yes the government implemented that policy however

schools are not following the rule. The researcher believe the government should hold

them accountable

Reflection

Upon completing this research there were a number of lessons learnt. One eye opening fact is the

amount of sugar that is in the beverages consumed by the students at school. The second thing I

have learned about are the health implications you will get after consuming sugary beverages.

For example: diabetes, obesity & hyperactive. The researcher is now cognizant of the fact that

more attention should be placed on the labels of the products that they are consuming this will

help them understand what they are digesting and the amount of sugar too. One way of

improving this project is to get some information from a scientist and health physicians in the

field of children’s health. Research has shown that consuming sugary beverages also increases

the genetic risk of obesity and other health problems. The researcher believes the biggest

economic impact that the government will face in the health industry is the over burden on our

hospitals. I think the government should place more attention on educating citizens about the

negative effects of consuming sugary beverages. They should also consider putting warning

signs on these beverages and highlighting the amount of sugar that one will consume after

drinking high content sugary drink or juice
