The music of the Philippines' lowlands exemplifies the country's rich and
varied history and culture. It was an excellent place to go not only for
entertainment, but also for other essential social activities and reasons.

Sachs Classification of Musical Instruments in the previous Activity Sheet. Watch

categorization system to classify the instruments in each group. (Please refer to

Activity: Playing Improvised Instruments
You will make an improvised musical instrument out of recyclable materials
that looks and sounds like the instruments covered in this module. Demonstrate
and play them in any song you've studied in this module. Make a video of your own
improvised musical instrument in action. A rubric will be used to grade you.

tapping the top wholes of bamboos with
two flat and flexible surface tappers.
Pan Pipes
• The sound and styling of Northern
Philippines wind instruments
• Each pipe represents a note and is blown
to produce the sound
Kiskis
• Kiskis is a Filipino word, meaning "to
scratch" or "to rub against anything,"
and it is played by scratching a rattan
stick against its ridges.
Idiophones make sound by vibrating their bodies in different ways, such as being
struck, scraped, rubbed, shook, and plucked.
Aerophones make sound by forcing a body of air to vibrate as a result of air being
blasted inside.
