Chapter 1
Lesson 1 – A: Teaching as a Profession “Without hard work and discipline it is difficult to be a
top professional.”

Pre-Activity
Read the following instances when the word “professional” is used. ADD SOME MORE
INSTANCES, IF YOU CAN. Explain what the word “professional” means in each case.
1. One night, cellphones were stolen right there from your home while you were asleep.
There was no indication of forced entry, so you claimed that how your cellphone was
stolen was highly professional.

- In this case, what can we denote as the word “professional” being used, is that it is a
professionalism in a bad way or in a bad aspect. It possesses a characteristic of being
expert or highly specialized in doing evil things or criminality with no even single
failure.

2. Father tells floor tile setter whom he asked to work on a newly constructed bathroom

words and actions and right attitude towards everything around you whether at
work or at home.

4. “How unprofessional of her to act that way. Teacher pa naman din.”

- The “professional” being used in here Implies that if you’re professional, you must
portray a desired behavior showing a proper and appropriate action in everything
you do. Yet, in this case, it questions the professionalism of a certain professional.
Perhaps, this may because of unprincipled and dishonorable work or action they
have done.

5. Medical doctors, lawyers, education consultants are entitled to professional fees (PF) for
expert services rendered.
- To say that you are professional has passed a certain level of education and is
somewhat competent and skilled in a specific area of specialization. Thus, these
professionals are given compensation or a fee charge for providing special services or
procedures being performed.

6. After his oath taking as a professional teacher, he was congratulated and was told “now
you are truly a professional.

- “Professional” being described in here is that after having been done a series of
study have obtained a degree, and passed a licensure examination, only then you
can say that you are full-fledged professional teacher. Hence, to be called as a
professional you must have first passed a licensure/board examination, for its
requirement.

Analysis: What does the word “professional” mean as used in the instances given above?

- Indeed, to say that you are a professional, it means that you are possess a
characteristic of being expert, skilled or highly specialized in a certain field. It is by
having a good quality of work done with excellent competency and skillful expertise.
Besides, to be called as a professional, you must have done series of study, trainings,
have obtained a degree, and somehow a requirement such as licensure/board
examination.

Application:
1. By the use of graphic organizer, present the elements of a profession.
2. Why does a profession like teaching require long years of initial professional education
and continuing professional development that long, arduous initial professional
education?

- Teaching profession requires long years of initial professional education and

continuing professional development after long arduous initial professional
development for the aspiring teachers to acquire an adequate knowledge and skills
that they can apply in their teaching profession. Initial professional education is the
training ground that would help them to enhance their skills, capabilities and
potentials. It also important because it helps to build their confidence and strength
needed in the actual teaching.

3. By way of an acrostic, explain the elements of a profession.

P Possess professionalism/ proper demeanor

R Responsible in proper implementation of instructional materials, policies and
innovations
O Optimum observant in terms of students’ academic performance as well as the
conducive learning environment
F Flexible inside and outside the classroom
E Ethical Constraint
S Superior listening skills with the sense of touch of belongings for colleagues,
parents and students

4. Here is a line from Bernard Shaw’s play: Man and Superman: “Those who can, do; those
who can’t, teach.”

- “Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach”, implies that there are professionals
who seek for success in a certain field. And not everyone is able to do something
well for a living, other people who are not able to do something make a living by
teaching, after all, the best way to learn something is not to do it but to teach it. You
understand it better after you explain it – you remember it better after retrieving and
sharing it.
Post Activity

1. Does the teaching profession fulfill all the elements of a profession? Explain your answer.

- Yes, the teaching profession can fulfill all the elements of a profession The teacher
must need to take the four-year course which can fulfill to the first element which is
the Initial Professional Education. Accreditors also monitor the university program to
determine if the programs will provide quality education. Accreditation assures that
graduates from accredited programs start their professional lives with the knowledge
they need to perform effectively. In teaching profession there’s always a room for
development, skills, practice teaching, demonstration teaching and seminars are
some of the best things that must be done in order to become a good and effective
teacher. the teacher needs to enhance his/her teaching skills that he/she can apply
on him/her teaching profession. Another one is the Certification after completion of
education, skills, development, workshops, seminar and training, the teacher will
receive certification. Licensing is one of the most important in teaching profession,
the teacher must be able to pass the Licensure Exam for Teachers (LET) in order to
become a Licensed Professional Teacher. Teachers also needs for Professional
Development so others undergo schooling for additional education because it helps
to assure a minimum competency throughout their career.

- Professionals must also involve in such organizations to see themselves as a part of

the community, this fulfills to Professional Society. All teachers must also fulfill the
Code of Ethics, which was designed to protect the rights of all the students. To be fair
and have a good relationship with the learners. Lastly, in teaching profession it is also
important to fulfill the last element of profession, which is the Organizational
Certification, not only them as an individual need to be certified but also their
organizations must be certified because it is a response to the reality that individual
competence is not sufficient to guarantee quality levels of professional service, but
organizational characteristics can have as much influence as individual’s
characteristics.

2. Is professionalization synonymous to professionalism? (Think of this: When teaching was

professionalized with the passing of RA 7836, did this mean all teachers automatically
demonstrated professionalism? Refer to the full text of RA 7836)

- No, because professionalization is just one of the steps to become one of the
professionalisms when there is an equal view or equal treatment of the two, it
seems like they said that there is no need to take and study anything to become a
full -fledged professional. Licensed professionals take the board exam, and they pass
it which means their knowledge and ability to teach can take responsibility for
imparting knowledge to different classes of students. Studied again for their master’s
degree and passed it so that they can transfer it into some specialty areas of
teaching.
Lesson 1 – B: The Historical Development of Teaching as a Profession in the Philippines

Pre-Activity
Find out how much you know about the history of teaching in the country. Write TRUE if the
statement is correct and FALSE if it is wrong.

FALSE 1. As early as the Spanish period, teaching considered a profession.

FALSE 2. It was the Americans who elevated teaching in the Philippines as a profession.
FALSE 3. Teaching was elevated to a profession only in 1994 with the passage of RA 7836
FALSE 4. There is no other legal document that professionalized teaching other than the
Teachers’ Professionalization Act of 1994 There is no other legal document that professionalized
teaching other than The Teachers’ Professionalization Act of 1994.

Analysis: (All the True-False items above are false)

- All of them are false. They don’t support the history of teaching.
Application:
Present the historical development of teacher preparation and professionalization in
the Philippines from pre-Hispanic Philippines to 1996 by way of a graphic organizer.

During pre-Hispanic period,

there was no established

Filipinos.
Post Activity:
Interview a LET passers now teaching who did not go through the 4-year teacher education
course. They are graduates of other four-year courses but not teacher education.
Ask them the following questions:

▪ She is a graduate in NONESCOST in 2015 and she passed the Licensure Examination for
Teachers in 2017. Her name is Ma. Nonen T. Siangcua, LPT, currently teaching in Gloria
Poblador Delapaz National High School.
1. What difficulties are they experiencing in teaching?
- The main difficulty/struggle I am experiencing in teaching of students. Nowadays,
most of them are hard-headed. They will do whatever they want. Even if the teacher
is discussing in front, they don’t care, they won’t listen. They don’t care if they will
get low grades or score during exams and quizzes.
- Also, the greatest of the challenges faced by a teacher are:
1)Knowing their students well. 2)Understanding the different learning abilities and
capacities of the students. 3)Motivating and encouraging them when the students
underperform and must deal with parental and peer pressure. 4)Building an effective
communication channel between the Management-Parents- Students.

2. Do they agree that a four-year teacher education course is a better preparation for
the teaching profession?
- Yes! I believe that four-year stay of an education teacher to an institution is enough
to mold and prepare him/her to be a well-rounded teacher.

3. In 1991, the Congressional Commission to Review and Assess Philippine Education

(EDCOM) came out with the finding that the “quality of Philippine education is
declining” and that the teachers are “at the heart of the problem.” The EDCOM
discussed further that:
- teachers were poorly trained
- there is low quality of students enrolled in teacher training
- teaching is perceived as a poorly esteemed profession so it does not attract the best as
mandated in the Philippine Constitution that “teaching will attract and retain” its
rightful share of the best available talents through adequate remuneration and other
means of job satisfaction and fulfillment (Article XIV, Section 5).
What actions did the Philippine government do after the EDCOM Report)

- The declining quality of education must not be blamed to teachers alone. Nowadays,
there are factors that affect the quality of education. Not enough classrooms and books
is one, another is too much time spend by students to gadgets and social media.

- To aid the government in its efforts to improve the state of education in the country,
the Senate is pushing for the revival of the Congressional Committee on Education
(EDCOM). Five senators, led by Sonny Angara, have filed Senate Joint Resolution No. 10
calling for the creation of the EDCOM, which will be composed of five members each
from the Senate and the House of Representatives. The EDCOM will be tasked to review,
assess and evaluate the formal, non-formal, informal and alternative learning systems,
including continuing systems of education at all levels. Among the products of the
EDCOM report was the "trifocalization" of the education system, with the Department of
Education having oversight over basic education; the Commission on Higher Education
for higher education; and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority for
technical and vocational education and training (TVET). Angara noted that there were
also major recommendations of the EDCOM that were not acted upon such as the
creation or institutionalization of a permanent National Coordinating Council for
Education to harmonize the policies and programs of the three education agencies and
dovetail them to national development plans.

4. Read RA 9293, An Act Amending Certain Sections of RA 7836 and answer this
question: What provisions in RA 9293 contribute to ensure that teachers fielded are
quality teachers? Discuss.

o Number of units in professional education required of non-education

graduates. (18 units in Professional Education)
o Registration of those engaged in teaching without examination.
- Article III, section 26, Registration and Exception – No person shall engage in
teaching and/or acts as a professional teacher as defined in this Act, whether
in pre-school, elementary or secondary level, unless the person is a duly
registered teacher, and a holder of a valid certificate of registration and a
valid professional license holder of a valid / temporary permit.
o Required rating for teachers.
o Sec. 2. Section 26 of the same Act is hereby amended to -Professional
teachers who have not practiced their profession for the past five (5) years

six (6) units of pedagogy and six (6) units of context courses or the equivalent
training and number 1 hours to be chosen from a list of courses to be
provided by the Board and the Department of Education, before they can be
allowed to practice their profession in the country.
Lesson 2: Teaching as a Vocation and Mission

Pre-Activity:
Answer the following questions:
1. When a mother says, “I think my son has a vocation,” what does she mean?

- It means her son must've received a call to do some work. Vocation means "calling"
or a profession that a person really wants. This is mostly used when pertaining to a
religious calling, or a calling to be a priest or nun, but it can also be used to other
professions.

2. A soldier reports and says “Mission accomplished.” What does this imply?
What does he mean?
- Used for saying that someone has successfully done what they wanted to do or had
to do.

3. Some teachers regard teaching as just a job. Others see it as their mission. What’s
the difference?

- Those who regard teaching as their job do it for the sake of money, while those who
see it as their mission do teaching with their heart, whether they will receive their
salary or not they will still do their job, for their learners to obtain the goal that was
set.
Analysis:
1. What is meant by vocation? Mission?
- A vocation is a job that you need to do wherein you are paid for. There is an
equivalent value of the job you did. If you work because you are required for the
service, then it is a vocation. While mission is a service with passion and out of love.
There is no need for recognition and even there is not enough pay, you are still
enjoying your job. You are committed to it all your heart, that is your mission.
2. Are these two (vocation and mission) related?
- Yes, vocation is only for some who are really dedicated not only to work but also to
serve other people. Teaching is your mission means it is the task entrusted to you in
this world.
3. Teaching as a job or mission. What’s the difference?
- Teaching as a job and a mission is correlated. If you are teaching because you are
being paid with your service and felt responsible to educate students, then it is a job.
But if you keep on teaching regardless if you don't receive payment or recognition
because of love, you are compassion and faithful to meet the needs of the student, it
is mission.
Application:
Explain your mission as a professional teacher by helping children become more human.

- We already have the potential to be great teachers as teachers and as people, but
we must take the time to develop those potentials in order to be professional.
However, being a professional entail a great deal of responsibility; we must devote
our lives and efforts to our profession for students to progress and become human.
Because that is our goal.

Post Activity:
Reflection – If you say “yes” to the call and mission to teach in this life, reflect on how you are
going to prepare yourself in this four-year teacher education course.

- Saying “yes” to the call and mission to teach in this life, for me is a privilege of having
the ability to impart knowledge in order to guide students in their pursuit for higher
education. I am going to prepare myself in this journey of becoming a professional
teacher by having self-discipline, focus, patience, flexibility and eagerness to learn in
order to equip myself with the necessary skills and knowledge that an effective
teacher should possess. I believe that the process of studying professional education
course will help me in becoming a good teacher, adviser, and guardian to our future
students.

Module 2
Chapter 2 - The Demands of Society from the Teacher as a Professional and as a Person

Pre-Activity:
What does society expect of teachers as professionals?
- Society respects the role of the teachers as a professional and demands that
professionalism maintained outside the boundaries of school. Teachers are highly
valued and respected within the community and therefore need to dress and act
appropriately, as well as manage their online presence. Nothing is more important
than preserving the respect of colleagues, students and parents and therefore
teachers are expected to filter their lives accordingly.

TEACHER
Answer the question by beginning with any of the letters of the word.
T- eaches with competence
E- ncourages students to do well in class
A- ctive and passionate
C- ares about his/her students.
H- as the ability to mold an individual
E xpresses and teaches wholeheartedly
R espectful and approachable.
Analysis:
1. What does your list tell about society’s expectations from teachers?
- My list about society expectation from teachers tells that society holds the greatest
expectation to teachers. Teacher is always accountable for student’s behavior and
attitudes as people sees them the manifestation of a perfect individual.

2. How do you feel? Are you overwhelmed by the litany of expectations?

- Yes, I was overwhelmed but it put a lot of pressure on teacher’s part. After all,
teachers better himself/herself and rises above all odds to meet the requirements of
the moment.

3. Are you changing your “YES” to the call to teach?

- Yes, I still want to teach, I believe that my worth as a teacher was defined by the
amount of gratitude I received.
Application:
Answer the following questions:
1. An LPT pin is worn by Licensed Professional Teacher (LPT) and the letters LPT are
attached to the name of every professional teacher in the Philippines in the same way
that M.D. Doctor of Medicine is attached to the name of a medical doctor, R.N. for a
Registered Nurse and CPA for a Certified Public Accountant. When you wear that pin and
write LPT after your name, you are announcing to the world you are a professional
teacher. Professional teacher, what does this mean?
- It means that you are qualified to teach and DEPED recognize you as a professional
teacher equipped with a high standard and quality education within you.
2. For the millennial learners: Is the professional teacher aptly described as PETMALU, LODI
and WERRPA? Explain your answer.
- Being a professional teacher means being knowledgeable and enthusiastic about
one's materials, creating a supportive and respectful classroom environment,
building authentic relationships with and advocating for students, being organized
and planning, remaining open to new ideas and continuing to learn, appreciating
diversity, and making complicated subject matter engaging and understandable for
students. With that teacher describes as their PETMALU, LODI AND WERPA because
of those characteristics. Those are not wrong but I see it a compliment for those who
work hard to adapt the current generation of children.

Post Activity:
Reflection:
Reflect on how you can acquire these professional standards.

- On acquiring professional standard, you must pass a teacher licensure examination

and labeled as LPT. These standards describe the skills, knowledge and behaviors
that characterize excellent practice and support professional growth.
Lesson 2: The Demands of Society from the Teacher as a Person
Pre-Activity:
Recall your most memorable teacher who had the greatest impact on your life? What special
personal qualities did he/she possess? Write them.

- She was strict but compassionate. She was always willing to stand her ground and
she didn’t take anything from anybody. If she knew you were having a problem, she
would act. She’s helped me so much in both my academic and personal life. She’s
incredibly funny, but she can be scary when she’s mad. I’ve seen her yell at adults
before. She has this sense of justice I guess, and she feels that if someone isn’t being
treated right, she’s not going to just sit there and watch.
She was incredibly easy to talk to about uncomfortable topics and her classroom was
my safe space.

Analysis:
1. Based on the result of your mental exercise, what are the most cited personal
attributes demanded of a professional teacher?
- The findings indicated that professional teachers are enthusiastic, friendly, easy-
going, able to develop rapport with learners, committed to the growth of their
students, approachable, interested in learners as people, and always conscious of
their status as role models.

2. “I cannot hear what you are saying because who you are speaks louder than what you
say”. How do you relate this to your personal life as a teacher?

- That’s an interesting statement. I would assume they mean you present yourself in
such a way that it is distracting them from being able to focus on your words.

Application:
1. Read this poem “You Are a Teacher” then answer the following questions: Which line of
the poem do you like most? Why?

- It will bear anything,

Hope for anything,
Endure anything.
- When the teacher says, I am the one that makes learning possible in the classroom
and I am committed to make it happen. I will do everything that I can teach. I am
ready to explore.
2. This is how one describes professionalism: “You must perform at a consistently higher
level than others. That’s the mark of a true professional. Professionalism has nothing to
do with getting paid for your services.” State professionalism in a sentence by stating
one concrete act of professionalism. Professionalism is doing my work to the best of my
ability even when nobody is looking.
- Professionalism is not the job you do; it's how you do the job. Professionalism
involves consistently achieving high standards, both visibly and "behind the scenes"
– whatever your role or profession.

Post Activity:
Reflection: Of the personal attributes of a professional teacher, which do you have most?
Why should you develop more?

- A person should enter the teaching profession they must first have a love of learning
and be willing to share this passion with students. A teacher should be expected to
have a sense of humor. Teachers' humor connects them with their students like a
magnet.

Module 3
Chapter 3- The Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers
Lesson 1 – The Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers: The Preamble and Article 1
Pre-Activity:
- Read the Preamble and Article 1 of The Code of Ethics thoroughly, then answer the
following questions in the Analysis phase of the lesson.
Analysis:
Answer the following questions.
1. Are teachers who have no license considered professional?
- No, because in the Code of Ethics of the Philippines it defines Professional as a
person who characterized by or conforming to the technical or ethical standards of a
profession. It is supported by Republic Act 7836: Philippine Teachers
Professionalization Act of 1994wherein it set regulations of the licensure
examination and professionalization of the practice of teaching profession. It
requires all teachers to take licensure examinations to be a professional teacher.
Moreover, I think that teacher is a paid occupation just like any other jobs it must
comply to all requirements and qualifications that their field demand to do.

2. What do technical and professional competence mean? (You may refer to the Lesson on
the Teacher as a Professional).
- Technical competence means that the teacher must have knowledge and show
expertise in a specific subject area. He or She knows the technical principles and
information in his/her profession. As defined in code of ethics that a teacher a
person who facilitate learners to gain knowledge, skills, and values that enhance
development. A person who has the knowledge, skills, attitude, and special trainings
in teaching, explaining, and educating. (R.A. 9155)
- Professional competence means showing personal accountability of professional
image by following the teaching standards and code of ethics. It also
showing practice related competencies and personal characteristics such as
decision making, adaptability to the behavior of the students and effective
communication. Moreover, making sure that the teacher skills and knowledge is
developing by attending seminar and trainings to contribute growth for the learners
and future career of the teacher. It also stated in code of ethics Article IV Sec 3 The
teacher. Shall pursue such other studies as will improve his efficiency, enhance the
prestige of the profession, and strengthen his competence, virtues, and
productivity in order to be nationally and internationally competitive.

3. Are private school teachers required of a license? What about pre-school teachers,
vocational teachers, ALS teachers, school heads, Education Supervisors and Schools
Division Superintendents?
- As I observed, most of the private schools do not necessarily requires license to their
teachers. They are focus and gives values degrees in related fields, work experiences,
knowledge and natural ability to teacher over certification. I think in legal terms it is
important that the teacher have license knowing that there’s a law under Republic
Act No. 7836 or the Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994, no
person shall practice the teaching profession without obtaining a valid
certificate of registration and professional license. However, this law commonly
practices in public schools and state university not in private institution.
Post Activity:
Are all institutions and professors in teacher education institutions required of a license?
Research for the answer.
- No, not all institutions and professors required to have license especially in private
institutions. Private schools prioritize and give values to the degrees in related fields,
work experiences, knowledge and natural ability to teach over the license of the
teacher. For instance, when I was in college, most of my professors are retired
ambassadors however they are not a license teacher, but they do have work
background and experiences in the government which related to the course I
enrolled Foreign Service.

Lesson 2 –Code of Ethics for Professional Teaches: Relationship with the Secondary and Tertiary
Stakeholders

A. The Teacher and the State

Pre-Activity:
Read Article II of the Code of Ethics. Then answer the questions in the Analysis phase of this
Lesson.
Analysis:
Answer the following questions: Article II
1. The schools are the “nurseries of the citizens of the state.” What are nurseries for? Why
are schools called the “nurseries of the citizen of the state?”
- It is called nurseries in the sense that when we were a child the schools are the
second home to us. The school is an institution that took care for us when were away
from our parents The moment we entered the school for the first time, the teacher is
the one who welcome and communicate to us. We see teachers as a role model in
the school. We follow and obey rules that they teach to us in the classroom because
we expect that all the knowledge and behavior that the teacher teach to us
are all good. The schools and teachers are the instruments in shaping
our minds and developing our knowledge to become a better person and
citizen of the state by teaching proper behavior and giving information in
various academic fields

2. “Each teacher is a trustee of the cultural and educational heritage of the nation and is
under obligation to transmit to learn such heritage.” In what ways can teachers do this?
- I think the teacher could show of video presentations of the Philippine culture and
educational heritage. The school can also conduct field trips, visiting museums and
cultural heritage sand let the students make reflection of what they learn and how
culture and history is important

3. In what ways can the professional teach help elevated national morality, promote
national pride and cultivate love of country?
- The teachers can conduct activities that promotes cultures and history of the
Philippines. they can conduct debates, poems, and quiz bees encouraging the
students to learn our culture and love our country. The teacher can also encourage
the learners to their basic rights like exercising their right to vote with their legal age
and guiding them in choosing the right leaders.

4. What steps do employers take to ensure that a teacher is physically, mentally and
morally fit?
- Physically in the sense that they give incentives and healthcare programs for the
teachers.
- Mentally means giving importance their mental health that as much as possible they
will not experience overwork, proper compensation and creating a positive
environment and supporting group for the teachers.
- Morally fit in the sense that the institutions monitor and observe code of ethics and
also giving equal rights for teachers, learners and parents.

5. Cite actions of a professional teacher that violate Section 5, Article II

- When a teacher recommending specific politicians to her students
during class their class discussion.
6. How can a professional teacher violate Sec. 6 and Sc. 7 of Article II?
- When a teacher requiring her students to attend campaign rally of politician and
giving them incentive or higher grades.

7. Every teacher shall enjoy academic freedom. What does academic freedom mean? Is
this academic freedom absolute?
- According to Britannica, academic freedom is the freedom of teachers and
students to teach, study, and pursue knowledge and research without
unreasonable interference or restriction from law. I believe that academic
freedom is not absolute. It is a right of an individual but also a responsibility
limited by values and practices. The teacher cannot simply teach anything he/she
wants, it must according to the approved curriculum of the academic institutions
and aligned to the common goal of academic success.

Application:
What is the professional thing to do?
1. Teacher B has a brother candidate for the mayoralty race in their hometown. The
brother’s opponent has very good chance of winning and so teacher B starts secretly.
campaigning for his brother. Is this professional, explain your answer.

- No, because it is stated in code of ethics Article II – The teacher and the state
Section 5 5. A teacher shall not engage in the promotion of any political,
religious, or other partisan interest as well as stated in Section 7. A teacher shall
not use his position or facial authority or influence to coerce any other person to
follow any political course of action. Thus, the teacher B should not engage in
campaigning his brother in political position knowing that it is against to the code
of ethics in his profession.

Post Activity:
1. Read the definition of teachers in the Education Act of 1982. Is this definition of
teachers the same with that of the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers? If not,
any difference?
- Education Act of 1982 is different from the Code of Ethics for Professional
Teachers, in such way that the former talks about more on educational system on
how to run a school whether private or public school. It deeply talks about the
policies that should be followed by anyone who are basically involve in the
educational system that they belong. For the definition of teachers, the
Education Act of 1982, focuses more on the obligations of teachers in school. On
the other hand, the latter focuses more on ethical standards that the teacher
should follow. Basically, this deals more on how the teacher should behave
accordingly to make the stain on the name of the teacher.
B. The Teacher and the Community
Lesson 2:
Pre-Activity:
Read Article III of the Code of Ethics then to do the activity as directed.
Analysis:
Explain in your own words how a teacher should relate to a tertiary stakeholder, the
community, by using the keywords.

- A solid education program builds a stronger community by preparing students to

be successful community members. Furthermore, the parents can help teachers
by monitoring the behavior and social development of their children at home,
especially for children with special education needs.
Application:
Select your correct answer:

1. Every school has a School Governing Council. What is this Council about?
How different is this from the Parents and Teachers Association?
- Basic Concepts of the SGC: Shared Accountability, Shared Commitment, and
Shared Responsibility
- The SGC shall be the overall coordinating body of all committees, associations,
and organizations in their schools that shall translate the principle of shared
governance enshrined in RA 9155 and contribute to strengthening the

the kids.

cooperation with colleagues.

as a collegial community?
- Findings revealed that Filipino teachers have a high ability to compartmentalize their
problems and a high level of perceiving, understanding, managing, and using their
emotions. They also display positive disposition when they are in the classroom showing
their good performance despite personal issues.
- Also, One Filipino trait that makes it difficult for professional teachers to function as a
collegial community is the tendency for Filipinos to be very passionate about their work.

Post Activity:
1. Will filing a justified complaint against a fellow teacher do well for a community of
professional teachers? If you were the one intending to file a complaint, would do so?
- A professional teacher should work in collaboration with his/her fellow teachers. Gossip
destroys collegial relationships. It has no place in a professional community. A
brotherly/sisterly correction for what may appear to be unprofessional and unethical
conduct of an associate is an act that is becoming of a professional.
- Should there be justifiable criticism against a fellow teacher, the right recourse is to
submit to proper authorities any justifiable criticism.
- It is unprofessional for a teacher to apply for a position for which he is not qualified.
Professionalism demands that selection is based on merit and competence. It is likewise
unprofessional to divulge confidential information concerning associates and the school.
- Give credit to whom credit is due. A professional teacher will not claim credit for work
not of his/her own. In order not to jeopardize office operation or work, a teacher before
leaving position, shall organize records for his/her successor. Many a time a turn-over
ceremony is well done but up to ceremony only because records are not organized and
so hampers the continuity of operation.
- In short, at all times, professional teachers shall be loyal to and trust and support one
another for the common good.
