DAY 1 (Monday, September 19, 2022)

Topic: Most Essential Learning Competency:
Literary Devices in Poetry Identify the various elements, techniques and literary devices in specific
forms of poetry
Objectives:
1. Enumerate the literary and sound devices used in poetry
2. Appreciate the use of figurative language and sound devices in poetry
3. Write a short poem which uses literary and sound devices
CLASSROOM-BASED ACTIVITIES:
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
In this part, the content of the lesson will be presented.
Learning objectives will also be introduced to guide the learners on the learning targets

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson


Allow the students to read the poem “I Wandered Lonely as A Cloud” by William Wordsworth. Ask the students for their observation the choice of words or
language used in the poem

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson


From the last week’s lesson, what are the different figurative language that you know? What is imagery? What figurative language do you commonly used
in your writings?

D-E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1 and #2


In addition to the previous discussions on figurative language and imagery, another literary device used in poetry are sound devices such as alliteration,
onomatopoeia, consonance, assonance and repetition.
F. Developing Mastery
Give lines from a poem and let the students identify the literary device used in the lines.

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living


What have you noticed on the following lines with highlighted words. Identify the sound devices used.
1. Silvery snowflakes fall silently
Softly sheathing all with moonlight
Until sunrise slowly shows
Snow softening swiftly.

2. Ticking, tucking.
Head is rocking.
Tippy toeing.
Quietly. Snap, crack.

3. The morning was cold with a bold statement


The morning dew was wet and set in the ground
You could taste the spring paste fill the air
It made you feel real, refreshed and lively.

4. The fair breeze blew, the white foam flew


The furrow followed free.

5. Time to spend;
time to mend.
Time to hate;
time to wait.

Elements of Poetry Identify the various elements, techniques and literary devices in specific

Objectives:
1. Enumerate the elements of poetry
2. Define rhyme, meter, theme, tone and mood
3. Exercise the use of different themes and tones in making a poem
4. Appreciate the importance of theme and tone in writing poetry

Rhyme scheme is the pattern of rhyming words at the end of each line. Not all poetry has a rhyme scheme. They are not hard to identify, but you must
look carefully at which words rhyme and which do not.

Teacher will discuss the elements of poetry including rhyme and its types, tone, mood and theme.

Forms of poetry will be discussed (narrative poetry, lyric poetry and descriptive poetry and their examples and forms).

Some lines from different forms of poetry will be given and the students will identify the type of poetry it belongs.

Make a couplet about your experience on distance learning transition to face-to-face setting.

Reading and Writing Poetry Write a short poem applying the various elements and literary devices
exploring innovative techniques

Objective:
Produce short and well-crafted poems
HOME- BASED ACTIVITIES:

Additional activities for application given from Monday to Thursday shall be compiled in a journal notebook with creative design.
