DAY 1 (Monday, October 3 , 2022)


Time: 11:30-1:00PM (HUMSS12A) Learning Area: Creative Writing
Topic: Most Essential Learning Competency:
Characters and Setting of Fiction Identify the various elements, techniques and literary devices in various modes of fiction
Objectives:
1. Identify how characterization is established in a story
2. Describe the different types of character
3. Discuss the functions of setting in a fiction
CLASSROOM-BASED ACTIVITIES:
A. Reviewing the previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
In this part, the content of the lesson will be presented.
Learning objectives will also be introduced to guide the learners on the learning targets

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson


Show images of characters and setting of famous series and stories and asked if they are familiar with them.

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson


Ask the students, “How do characters seem believable in a story?”

D-E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1 and #2


Discuss the methods and dimensions of characterization.

F. Developing Mastery
Give questions on what is revealed on the characters and how they are portrayed.

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living


From your favorite fictional story, choose a character you like most and answer the given questions.
What inspired you to choose him/ her as your favorite character?
How close is your character to your personality?
What type of character he/she is in the story?
H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson
Explain how characterization is important in writing fiction.

HOME-BASED ACTIVITIES
Get a copy of the story Our Lady’s Juggler by Anatole France. Read the story and answer the following questions:
1. There is only one main character in the story-Barnabas. What are the two basic qualities in his character?
2. What incidents in the story bring out these qualities?
3. Compare Barnabas with the other monks in the monastery.
4. What general observation about life and people did the author play up in the story? How did the setting contribute to other events?
5. Explain: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

DAY 4(Thursday, October 6, 2022)

Topic: Most Essential Learning Competency:


Conflict and Plot in Fiction Identify the various elements, techniques and literary devices in various modes of fiction
Objectives:
1. Identify the types of conflict in fiction
2. Determine the type of conflict in the given situations
3. Create a simple story following the parts of plot in fiction
CLASSROOM-BASED ACTIVITIES:
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
In this part, the content of the lesson will be presented.
Learning objectives will also be introduced to guide the learners on the learning targets

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson


Show pictures of human challenges and difficulties and asked how people can overcome these challenges.

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson


Let the students reflect on the idea that life without problems will be meaningless as well as with fictions and narratives.

D-E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1 and #2


Discuss the types of conflict and how plot in fiction revolves around the conflicts
F. Developing Mastery
Give situations where students will identify the type of conflict presented in the events and images.

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living


In a paper, students will write at least 3 conflicts they are experiencing and indicate what type of conflict it is.

H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson


In writing your story, how will you have unity in organizing the events in one whole story.

I. Evaluating learning
Make at least five statements involving at least a man, a woman and a small apartment. Then try designing a plot based on these statements

J. Additional activities for application or remediation


Using the story Our Lady’s Juggler, list down five important events following the plot sequence from exposition to resolution.

DAY 5 (Friday, October 7, 2022)

Topic: Most Essential Learning Competency:
Conflict and Plot of Fiction Identify the various elements, techniques and literary devices in various modes of fiction
HOME-BASED ACTIVITIES:
From your favorite story or fiction, list down five important events following the plot sequence from exposition to resolution using a graphic organizer.
Identify the conflict in the story and its type and explain how the characters solved that conflict.
