Hi *insert name*! I think you’re a really talented dancer as well as choreographer, and I was
wondering if I could use your help with something. For my senior project, I’m going to bring
different members of dance collective to an elementary school to teach some masterclasses. I
was wondering if you would be willing to teach two weeks of a *insert style* class (just for fun,
not anything super intense). Thank you for considering!

Hello Mrs. Perryman,

I am a senior at Santa Susana High School. I'm currently

working on my senior cumulative project, wherein I would like to go to an
elementary school with some members of our school's dance team and teach a
six-week camp of dance classes. The class dates would be decided at a later
date, but they would take place next semester. I was researching different
schools to teach at, and I thought that your school looked like a wonderful
environment. I could discuss the logistics of this project with you whenever
you want, I was just wondering if your school would be interested. Thank you so
much for your time and consideration!

SECOND UPDATE EMAIL SENT:

Hi Mrs. Perryman,
I wanted to check back in with you for some updates. I'm thinking of doing it on Fridays starting
on January 24th and continuing on February 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th, as well as on March 3rd.
We would be teaching them a dance routine in each class (ballet dance in the first two weeks,
jazz dance in the next two weeks, and hip hop dance during the final two weeks) that they would
perform for parents and friends on March 10th. The classes would be an hour each, from 3:00
to 4:00. I will provide water and snacks. Let me know how this sounds to you and if you have
any questions or concerns, or if we're good to start moving forward!

Thank you again for the opportunity!

Lesson Plan for the first class:

➢ Introduce myself:
- “Hi guys! So I want us all to sit in a circle and introduce ourselves to each other.
I’m gonna go first! My name is Darla Duffy, but you can call me Darla! I’m 17, a
senior, I know, crazy, but yeah haha. My favorite color is baby pink! So let’s go in
a circle and say your name, age, favorite color, and grade!
- So really quick I’m gonna teach you this oneee thing really quick before we get
started. So I think some of you guys have probably heard this before, but its
called quiet coyote. When I go like this *does it*
- So lemme explain what we’ll be doing for the next couple weeks. So im gonna be
teaching you all two weeks of ballet, you might recognize the song we’re dancing
to haha. After that, my best friend Leah is gonna teach you guys jazz, but I’ll be
there to help. And they for the last two weeks, my other best friend Jensen is
gonna teach you guys some hip hop! And then for the lastttt week, we’re gonna
perform for our friends and family in a little showcase! Does anyone have any
questions? Awesome are we all excited?
➢ Teach them five positions:
- “Okay! So let’s get into it. Everyone is gonna riseeee! We’re gonna get in 4 lines
of ten okay? So everyone hold hands and I’m gonna tell you when to scootch
back. *does that* “
- “Alrighty amazing job you guys! So you’re gonna learn our first position!! And its
called,,,,,,, first position!! So everyone stand like this with our feet and then we’re
gonna leeeannnn back on our heels. And point ur feet to the wall! Amazing job
you guys!! Next we’re gonna have out arms right under us here.
- We’re gonna bend our knees and put our legs directly out. Awesome this is
called a plie. Can everyone say plie? SO plie means to bend.
- So I’m gonna play the music and we’re gonna do it together.
- One two (go down) three four (go up)
- Next step!
- Were gonna extend our right foot to the and moove our arms out like this you
see? Awesome job guys! Now were gonna do the same to the other foot and
bring this foot in. Amazing!! So this step is called a tendu can everyone say that?
Gret job. Tendu means to stretch. So when you’re doing this think of strrrretching
ur foot really far out there.
- Five six (tendu right) seven eight (tendu left
- Okay now we’re gonna wave to our parents and all grab hands and run up to the
front!!!
