2.Apply the different dance styles of
hip-hop in a dance routine.
3. Discuss the importance of
consistency

Are the objectives clear, class? Yes, Miss.

B. Demonstration Proper

But before I discuss about the first style

in hip-hop, I want you to pay close
attention and observe to the video that I
will be presenting to you. After that, you
will tell me what have you observe in
the video.

(Presents B-boying in the video) (Students watch the presentation.)

That’s it! What have you observed in

their movements? Anyone? Okay! Yes In the first video, they’re doing some
kim. tricks.

Excellent! So as you can see in the

video, they are doing some tricks on the
floor. The dancers performed break
dancing or shall we say Bboying.
B-boying or breaking, also called
breakdancing, is a style of street dance
and the first hip-hop dance style that
originated among Black and Puerto
Rican youths in New York City during
the early 1970s.

Am I understood? Yes, Miss.

This is how to perform the break

dancing. I want all of you to observe
carefully because you will also be
performing after me.

(Demonstrating)
Let’s start with the top rock. This is one
of the basic steps in break dancing. Top
rock involves standing with your feet.
Move your arms and legs in sync. Step
your left toe to your right side, waving
your arms at the same pace. Then, return
to the original position. Repeat with
your right toe. After you feel
comfortable with this move, speed it up (Students observe the demonstration)
and bounce slightly with your legs.
Yes, Miss
Do you understand class?

Now, I want someone in the class to (Students do as told.)

perform B-Boying.

Excellent! Now I want everybody to (Students do as told.)

stand and perform B-Boying.

Wow! Let us give ourselves a round of (Students do as told.)

applause!

Are there any questions about the first None, Miss.

style?
Alright! If there is none, then I’ll show
you the second video.
(Students watch the presentation.)
(Presents popping in the video)

What have you observed in the video? Joyce: He performed popping.

Yes, Joyce.

Awesome! The second dance style of

Hip hop is Popping.

Popping is based on the technique of

quickly contracting and relaxing
muscles to cause a jerk in a dancer’s
body.

So, this is how to perform popping.

Please observe.

(Demonstrating)
Hitting or popping is when you flex and
release your muscles as quickly and as
powerfully as possible. Hitting is done to
the beats in music. Practice by hitting
one body part at a time (arms, legs,
chest, neck), in different positions.

Do you understand class? Yes, Miss

Now, I want someone in the class to

perform popping. (Students do as told.)

Excellent! Now I want everybody to

stand and perform popping. (Students do as told.)

Wow! Let us give ourselves a round of

applause! (Students do as told.)
Are there any questions about the
second style? None, Miss.

Again, what was the first and second

dance style of hip hop? Break dancing/B-boying and Popping

Very Good! So now, let’s proceed to

our third dance style.
(Presents locking in the video) (Students watch the presentation.)

What was the video all about? Any

idea? Yes, Dorothy? He performed the locking style.

That’s correct! He performed the

locking.

Locking or campbellocking, was created

by Don Campbellock Campbell in 1969
in Los Angeles, California. Locking can
be identified by its distinctive stops. It is
usually performed by stopping the fast
movement that you are doing, locking
your body into a position, holding it,
and then continuing at the same speed as
before.

Am I understood? Yes, Miss.

This is how to perform locking. I want

all of you to observe carefully because
you will also be performing after me.

(Demonstrating)
This is the basic of locking. Up Lock
(Muscleman).Bending arms upwards,
like the look of a strong man, and then
down .Twirling wrists while moving
arms up and then lock. Twirl and lock.
So you can repeat this element and you (Students observe the demonstration)
can put a variation if you want to
choreograph sa certain routine.

Do you understand class? Yes, Miss

Now, I want someone in the class to

perform locking. (Students do as told.)

Excellent! Now I want everybody to

stand and perform locking. (Students do as told.)

Wow! Let us give ourselves a round of

applause! (Students do as told.)

Are there any questions about the third

style? None, Miss.

That’s great! Then, let us proceed to the

fourth dance style.
(Presents krumping in the video) (Students watch the presentation.)

Now, do you have any idea what is the

forth dance style of hip hop? Mr.
Enrick? Krumping, Miss.

Bravo! The forth dance style of hip hop

is krumping. Krumping is a form of
dancing that originated in the African-
American community of South Central
Los Angeles, California and is a
relatively new form of the “Urban”
Black dance movement. It is free,
expressive and highly energetic.

Is it clear? Yes, Miss.

This is how to perform the krumping. I

want all of you to observe carefully
because you will also be performing
after me.

(Demonstrating)
The basic steps of krumping is
stomp, chest pop and then jabs or arm
swing and then if you familiarize this
one you can now create a different kind
of krumping routine. (Students observe the demonstration)

Am I clear class? Yes, Miss.

Now, I want someone in the class to

perform krumping. (Students do as told.)

Excellent! Now I want everybody to

stand and perform krumping. (Students do as told.)

Wow! Let us give ourselves a round of

applause! (Students do as told.)

Are there any questions about the fourth

style? None, Miss.

That’s great! Then, let us proceed to the

fifth dance style.
(Presents tutting in the video) (Students watch the presentation.)

Can you guess the fifth dance style?

Yes, Paul. It is about tutting, Miss.

Exactly! Its about tutting. It is a creative

way of making geometric shapes
forming right angle using your body
parts. The style was originally practiced
by young funk dancers. It is derived
from the positions people were drawn in
during the days of the Ancient
Egyptians.
In tutting, it is a free form dance.
Meaning you are free to create an action
but using you arms and hands only.

Is it clear? Yes, Miss.

This is how to perform the tutting. I

want all of you to observe carefully
because you will also be performing
after me.

(Teacher demonstrates the fifth style) (Students observe the demonstration)

Am I clear class? Yes, Miss.

Now, I want someone in the class to

perform tutting. (Students do as told.)

Excellent! Now I want everybody to

stand and perform tutting. (Students do as told.)

Wow! Let us give ourselves a round of

applause! (Students do as told.)

Are there any questions about the fifth

style? None, Miss.

That’s great! Then, let us proceed to the

last dance style in hip-hop.
(Presents waacking in the video) (Students watch the presentation.)

What have you observe in the video?

Another hand, please. Okay let’s hear
from Nhova. They performed waacking, Miss.

Alright! That is correct. Waacking

consists of stylized posing and fast
synchronized arm movements to the
beat of the music. And it is one of the
popular element of hip hop.
So this is how you do the waacking. I
want all of you to observe carefully
because you will also be performing
after me.

(Demonstrating)
There are three types of waack. First,
we have the waack back. You have to
rotate the arm round the back of the
shoulder, finishing with a Waack, as if
you are hitting or whacking something!
Next, we have waack forward.
The Waack Forward is a lower Waack
that is characterized by the lower arm
extending out in front of the body,
finishing again with a Waack! (Students observe the demonstration)

Am I clear class? Yes, Miss.

Now, I want someone in the class to

perform waacking. (Students do as told.)

Excellent! Now I want everybody to

stand and perform waacking. (Students do as told.)

Wow! Let us give ourselves a round of

applause! (Students do as told.)

Are there any questions about the sixth

style? None so far Miss.

That is good to hear! We are done with

the six(6) dance styles of hip hop.

So again, what are those six hip hop

dance style? The six dance styles are Breakdancing/
B-boying, Popping, Locking, Krumping
Tutting, Waacking.
Very good, class. Do you have any
questions abouth the six dance styles in
hip hop? None so far Miss.
