a.4. Review

In yesterday’s lesson, we tackled the Philippine Ben: Philippine folk dancing both reflects the
Folk Dance history. Can anyone from the group traditional and modern times of Filipinos,
define what Philippine folk dance is and what wherein the dances were performed to
are the 2 types of it? celebrate festivals, victories, feasts and varied
celebrations.

Thank you for that answer, Ben. Very well said!

Anyone from the group again? What are the Zyke: The two types of Philippine folk dance
two types of Philippine folk dance? are rural or occupational dance and Spanish
inspired.
You got it right Zyke! That’s very good! Because
it seems like you’re all attentive and dedicated
to our class, let us now start our lesson proper
to further our learning about Philippine Folk
dance.

b. Lesson Proper
b.1. Motivation

First, let us have our short activity.

Are you all familiar with the stop dance? All: Yes, ma’am!

That’s great! We will be playing that kind of

game, but let’s do some twists. We will call this
Stop, move and dance!

I will play the song "Paru-parong Bukid," and

every time I play the music, you will freeze up
and hold your dance pose. When I stop the
music, you need to create your dance moves.
You can be creative as much as you want. The
learner who gets the most creative and unique
dance pose will get a burger.

b.2. Presentation of the Lesson

We are now in our today’s lesson, and with

that, let’s tackle the fundamental position of
arms and feet in Philippine Folk dance. Are you
all ready and excited to listen? All: Yes ma’am, we are all set to listen!

We have three learning objectives for this

lesson. Kindly read them in chorus: Learning Objectives

At the end of a 20-minute class

discussion, the students must have:

a) determined the fundamental

positions of arms and feet in
Philippine folk dance;
b) evaluated the importance of the
fundamental positions of arms and
feet in Philippine folk dance through
an essay writing;
c) demonstrated the fundamental
positions of arms and feet in
Philippine folk dance with mastery

Are there any question class? All: None ma’am.

So let’s start. First give me some adjective Amy: Timeless

words that describe folk dance. Anyone? Jef: Energetic
Lizzy: Traditional

Very well answered!

Upon describing folk dance, is it an enjoyable or All: Yes, ma’am!

interesting dance?

That’s great! Now let me introduce to you the

five fundamental positions of the arms and
feet. For a short overview before diving in
deeper, the short history of Fundamental
Dance Position of Arms and feet is very
interesting.

Everyone in folk dancing values it. You cannot

begin to teach folkdance without
understanding the fundamentals of dance foot
and arm placement. These were actually the
expressive combination movements of both
feet and arms whether the pace of the dance
steps was fast or slow. In other words, it
characterizes and identifies Philippine folk
dances.

For simpler understanding, I’ll show you how

these 5 positions are executed. Let us play the
video. Please observe and be quiet because,
afterward, we will be having a short activity.

https://youtu.be/-hE-Anpzqyw

Feet position
1st position- Heels together, toes apart with
an angle of 45 degrees.
2nd position- Astride sideward of about a pace
or 1 foot distance.
3rd position- Heel of one foot close to the instep
of the other foot.
4th position- One foot in front
of the other about a pace distance.
5th position- Heel of front foot close to the big
toe of the rear foot.

Arms position
1st position- Circle both arms in front of chest
with the finger tips about an inch apart.
2nd position- Both arms raised sideward with a
graceful curve.
3rd position- One arm raised sideward, the other
arm overhead.
4th position- One arm in a half circle in front,
other arm raised overhead.
5th position- Both hands raised overhead.

How was it, students? What can you say? Did

you find it easy? All: Yes/no, ma’am!

That’s very confusing answers my learners.

Anyway, let’s have our activity now.

b.3. Activity/ Application

Since all of you seem familiar with those steps

now, I want you to group yourselves by six and
demonstrate the combination of five
fundamental steps of arms and feet in
Philippine folk dance with mastery; and without
music, counting will suffice. For your reference,
I’ll play the video again one more time, and I’ll
give you 3 minutes for the preparation. Are we
all clear? All: Yes, ma’am.

c. Quieting Activity

How was the activity? Did you all enjoy it?

With that, just kindly rest yourselves for 1

minute. All: Yes, ma’am.

d. Generalization

Okay, how many positions are there in the arms

and feet? Yes, Cassie?
Cassie: Each has five positions, ma’am.
Very good. What are those, Maddy?
Maddy: 1st position, 2nd position, 3rd position,
4th position, and 5th position ma’am.
Well said. The fundamental positions of arms
and feet are very essential, not just because
one cannot learn folk dance without
understanding and delving in, but also it keeps
the dancer safe and helps to create a better
connection between the steps and his/her co-
dancer.

Any questions?
All: None ma’am.

e. Evaluation

Each group's performance will be evaluated

using the following criteria:

Criteria:
Execution-------30%
Mastery--------30%
Timing----------20%
Posture--------10%
Unity and Projection----10%

Total: 100%

Okay, regarding the recent performance you’ve

just had. Henry, may I know your sentiments? Is Henry: It’s the latter, ma’am, and it’s indeed
it hard for you or do you enjoy it? enjoyable!

I’m happy to hear that! How about you, Jose? Jose: I was nervous ma’am, but I guess I
What did you feel while performing it? nailed it ma’am! Hahaha!

I love the confidence! Some more comments? Marga: It was kind of hard for my part,
Yes, Marga? ma’am, because I’m having trouble with my
arms and feet coordination.

Thank you for your honesty, and that’s pretty

normal, my children. Just practice; it will make
you better and more skilled! Understand? All: Yes, ma’am!
For your assignment in your notebook, kindly
copy the question and answer it with at least
four sentences. I’ll check your notebook
tomorrow as an attendance record.

Assignment:
As a learner, why is it important to study the
fundamental positions of arms and feet in
folkdancing?

Okay, that’s all for today’s class! Thank you for

your applauded participation. Have a good day!
Enjoy your next class!
