    This document discusses a study conducted in Lubilan Integrated School that examined using the Marungko Approach to expose grade 2 pupils to English at an early stage. The study found that beginning instruction in the mother tongue, as the K-12 curriculum mandates, and then transitioning to English in grade 3 can be effective if the Marungko Approach is used.     EXPOSURE OF ENGLISH FOR GRADE 2 PUPILS


    USING MARUNGKO APPROACH

    Part I. Situation

    Elementary pupils begin reading texts on the mother tongue. K to 12 curriculum has
    embedded this in the curriculum, emphasizing the need to focus on learning mother
    tongue on the first grades of the pupils. However, upon reaching the third grade, the
    pupils will begin to learn to read English. This research investigates the effect of using
    Marungko Approach as intervention to the performance of students in reading English.
    Results revealed that there is a positive effect in using the approach towards the
    performance of the pupils.

    Part II. The Intervention

    The intervention used in the study is the use of Marungko Approach in teaching
    reading English. This is done in order to cater the early exposure of the pupils to English.
    The materials used in this study are instructional materials that follow the Marungko
    Approach. Then, the said Approach was conducted, followed by the assessing of the
    pupils as to how they read.

    Part III. Summary

    The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of using Marungko Approach
    towards early exposure of Grade 2 pupils on English. Results show that 67% of the
    pupils are able to read in English. The researcher has reflected that the use of the said
    approach gives a good effect on the pupils. Hence, this intervention should be used to
    cater in improving their way of learning.
