QUARTER 1

Learning task:
Look - Observe - Describe

Objective:
Describe the distribution of active volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, and major
mountain belts.

Procedure:
Describe each illustration below to complete the table.

Image Descriptions

A. Earthquake 1. I understand that the

Epicenters focus is where an
earthquake originates
and it’s located inside
earth’s crust.

2. I learned that the

epicenter is the point
above the focus of an
earthquake. I also
learned that we used
a triangulation
method to find the
epicenter of an
earthquake.

3. Faults are the

fractures of the
ground that take
place when the earth’s
tectonic plates move.
I also learned that
transform plate
boundaries form
faults. And the
longest fault is the
San Andreas Fault.

B. Active 1. I learned that active

Volcano volcanoes are those
that have a record of
eruption and are
likely to erupt again.

2. Most active volcanoes

are located around
the edges of the
Pacific Ocean called
the Ring of Fire.

3. In an active volcano
we can find an active
magma chamber
which magma
collects. And once the
magma escapes onto
the planet’s surface
it’s called lava.

C. Mountain 1. I learned that when

Range two continental plates
collide, it forms a
mountain range.

2. I understand that if
two continental
collide it forms a
mountain because
they will smash
together, and the
rocks will be pushed
upwards.

3. I also learned that if

the two continental
plates continue to hit
together, mountains
will get taller and
taller.
