LAB REPORT

Title: ANIMAL MANURE AS FERTILIZER IN CROPS

Purpose:

This is to determine the nutrients of the animal manure as organic fertilizer to avoid

using red labelled fertilizer or the strong ones.

Background:

Animal manure are solid, semisolid, and liquid by-products generated by animals.

According to Artoria2e5, animal manure as fertilizer can improve the soil structure so that

the soil holds more nutrients and water, and therefore becomes more fertilizer. To evaluate

the impacts of animal manure in farming, the pechay was grown with different fertilizer.

Hypothesis:

The hypothesis tested was that since the pechay requires soil carbon to make nutrients

available to plants, the fertilizer helps producing soil carbon to have fertile crops. The null

hypothesis was that there is no significant relationship of the plant growth and animal

manure.

Material and Methods:

This chapter present the materials and method in evaluating the difference of organic

fertilizer and commercial fertilizer wherein two (2) plots of garden were applied with

fertilizer. Each plots was given different fertilizer.

Table 1. Animal fertilizer and commercial fertilizer applied to evaluate the nutrients

impact on plant growth.

Animal Manure Fertilizer Nutrients Commercial Fertilizer Nutrients

Ammonium-Nitrogen (3%) Nitrogen (0.33%)

Phosphorus (1%) Phosphorus (0.11%)

Potassium (2%) Potassium (0.11%)

Sulfur

Magnesium

Table 1 shows the animal fertilizer and commercial fertilizer applied to evaluate the

nutrients impact on plant growth with each corresponding peercentage. It was noted from the

table above that there are 3 percent of the Nitrogen on the animal manure while there is 0.33

percent of the Commercial fertilizer. On the other hand, there are 1 percent phosphorus of

the Animal manure and 0.11 percent on the commercial fertilizer. Thereupon, 2 percent of

potassium in the Animal Manure and 0.11 percent of the commercial fertilizer. Also, there

are three (3) more nutrients in the animal manure than the commercial.

Therefore, the table indicated that animal manure as fertilizer is effective for fertile

growth of plants.

Furthermore, the two (2) garden plots was made at the greenhouse for effective

surveillance. Watering the plants was added during the examination but no additional

fertilizers added. At the end of the examination the plant from each different plot was

recorded and compared for analysis.

Data:

We wanted to see the difference of the organic animal manure fertilizer and the

commercial fertilizer impacts to the plant growth. The graph shows the difference of the

growth period of the plants with different fertilizer.

Analysis and Discussion:

The results of the experiment matched to the expected impact based on the hypothesis

being tested. The nutrients from the animal manure has high potential to fertile the soil to

produce well fertile crops. On the other hand, too much animal manure applied would

damage the plants growth for it will wither and animal manure applied to the soil will help it

more to produce nitrogen needed of the plant until the plantation of the next crop. Moreover,
the commercial fertilizer shows that it has the same impacts to the plant. Also, the

commercial fertilizer is not safe for the soil for it will affects the natural nitrogen and

phosphates.

Conclusion/ Summary:

According to the Research Council, nutrients critical to healthy plant growth, such as

nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium are present in manure. It contains organic matter that

contributes to soil quality and productivity. Analysis of the soil an manure nutrient levels will

help to create a nutrient management plan that supplies the plants with desired nutrients.

Therefore, the experiment shows that the animal manure is an effective organic

fertilizer to reduce damage to the soil and reduce health risk due to the chemical from the

commercial fertilizer. The chemical added to the commercial fertilizer can damage the

natural nutrients of the soil and can damage the soil production. The organic fertilizer can

also help farmers to reduce waste of money and reduce the potentially damage to the

environment.

Generally, animal manure proper usage to the soil will help it more produce nutrients

and can decrease too much expenses in farming.

What did you learn from the experiment:

The experiment was not that easy to do for it will take time to determine the

difference between the two fertilizer. I have learned that the animal manure production was

laborious. Moreover, the experiment showed me that organic fertilizer is way better than

commercial, laborious but effective and safe one.
