CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION
(3 singles spaces from a chapter heading to the main section)

Background of the Study (Bold)

(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
This section reviews the phenomenon (in quantitative studies, the equivalent

are the variables) that you propose to study. Provide a discussion of your context or

current information surrounding the issue. (Indention: 1” per paragraph; Font:

Normal; Font Size: Arial 12. Spacing: Double. This applies to all section contents)

(3 singles spaces in between sections)

Rationale
(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
Why is this an important area? Provide reasons or logical basis for studying

the phenomenon/phenomena. Mention in passing the research gap based on your

initial review of the empirical literature. What specific areas have not yet been

explored or studied? Discuss here how you think your study can help address the

gap? (Font: Normal, Arial 12. Spacing: Double)

(3 singles spaces in between sections)

Purpose of the Study

(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
What is the purpose of your study? What are your objectives? What do you

hope to achieve?

(3 singles spaces in between sections)

Research Question(s)
(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
What questions do you intend to answer? Remember that in qualitative

research, the aim is to understand the meaning, to make sense of people's

perspectives, lived experiences, etc.

Theoretical Lens

(3 singles spaces in between sections)

Significance of the Study

(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
Discuss in 5-10 sentences who are the individuals/groups/sectors that will

benefit from your study. Explain how exactly they benefit from your research.

(3 singles spaces in between sections)

Scope and Limitations

(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
Define boundaries in the problem area, the population, or situation to which

the findings may apply.

(3 singles spaces in between sections)

Organization of the Study
(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
Provide an overview of the chapters of your study. What will the reader find

in each of the chapters? The discussion should be one paragraph per chapter.
CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

(3 singles spaces from the chapter heading to the main section)

Main Heading 1
(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
Discuss the applicable concepts for the phenomenon you propose to study.

In addition to the description, discuss the empirical studies that have been done that

are relevant to your research. What do these studies say? In discussing the study,

describe what the study is about, what the research questions were, what methods

were used, who were the participants/informants, and key findings. Wrap this up by

adding a discussion as to how the studies relate to yours.

Sub-Heading 1. Focus the discussion on the sub-heading under the main

heading.

Definition of Terms
(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
Term. Provide an operational definition for each of the concepts used.

(3 singles spaces in between sections)

Research Gap
(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
Synthesize your literature review. What do most of the studies say in each of

the concepts you discussed. What areas have yet to be explored where your

research may contribute to.

CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY
(3 singles spaces from the chapter heading to the main section)

Research Design
(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
Discuss your research design. Rationalize its appropriateness for your study.

What specific methods do you intend to use? Define and rationalize the use of

these methods.

(3 singles spaces in between sections)

Philosophical Assumptions
(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
Discuss the philosophical assumptions of your study. (Epistemological,

Ontological, Methodological, Rhetorical, Axiological)

(3 singles spaces in between sections)

Role of the Researcher

(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
Who are you in the research process? Are you an insider? Are you an

outsider looking into the phenomenon? How do you think your researcher location

and positionality will affect your study?

(3 singles spaces in between sections)

Research participants/Informants
(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
Describe your participants and/or informants in detail without disclosing their

names.

(3 singles spaces in between sections)

Selection Process
(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
How were they selected? What selection criteria did you use?

(3 singles spaces in between sections)

Data Collection
(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
Discuss your timetable. Please include dates and persons (designations or

descriptions only, not the names of those who were involved. Discuss here all the

steps you propose to undertake to collect the data.

(3 singles spaces in between sections)

Analysis of Data
(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
How did you go about data analysis? What specific steps did you undertake?

What was your analytical framework? Here you need reference your theoretical lens

for to support your analysis,

CHAPTER IV

PRESENTATION OF RESULTS
(3 singles spaces from the chapter heading to the main section)

Note: The number of chapters in a multiple case study depends on the

number of cases/informants. The format in presenting the results will also depend

on the type of qualitative research design employed by the researcher. Refer the

format to the thesis adviser, research director, or program dean.

Main Heading
(Double space from the section heading to start of the paragraph)
Substantiate your discussion of the results with excerpts from your

informants and/or participants. Triangulate this with what the literature says. Provide

a discussion of the implications of the results to practice in your context.

ABC: Excerpts (Provide translation in English as necessary. Format: single-

space, with right and left indentions; Font size, 10) (lines 3-4)
