KERBY B, EROISA PSYCHOLOGICAL STATISTICS

1BNEW1-2BSPSYCH FEBRUARY 7, 2023

Reflection No.1

On the first day of the discussion, I was able to understand deeply the statistics and
their importance to my course which is psychology also its relevance in my field of
expertise as our professor Mr. Emerson told us that the subject stats is focused more
on interpreting data than doing math that made me relive as I don’t really not like the
math subject because im not good in calculating numbers just with my mind and im
always confused in how to use the formula just through my mind. In identifying the
dependent and independent variables I was able to fully understand as sir Emerson
explain it in a very easy way for us to understand this is part of the lesson that I can
say that I was fully cooperative and the part of the lesson that fully understand also
after giving some examples that he lets us indentify ourself the independent and depent
variables in each situation like in the question about the strawberry, blueberry and
spinach powder and if does slow down aging I was able to found the independent and
dependent variables easily which means that I understand the topic fully. In the next
lesson which is about the variables, I was able to understand how to measure a variable
that is present in research like if it is nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio by just looking
at and analyzing the value of variables for each variable for example if the variables is
involve in classifying individuals in the categories and don’t have any particular oder of
date the variable have a nominal measurement, if the set of categories and organized in
the size of magnitude the variable have a Ordinal measurement, if the categories are
organize in the interval of categories that have equal size and don’t have a zero point
then the variable have a interval measurement, and if the categories are organized in
order of equal interval between categories and have a absolute sero points then the
variable have a measurement of ratio. As we proceed in the lesson I learned the two
types of variables that are necessary for conducting research in a sample group which
is the random and non-random sampling method that helps in identifying the
characteristics and the scope of the sample that I want to be part of my research in the
population that I choose to where in the random sampling each member of the
population has an equal chance in being selected while in the non-random the
researcher choose the sample that he/she wants in the population with her own
descretion . In this lesson which is the last part of the lesson tackled on the first day of
discussion, sir Emerson teach us the 3 research methods which are Correlation,
Experimental, and Non-experimental which the first two I was able to fully understand
while the last one the non-experimental I was not able to understand it because it was
explained in a very simple but complicated way that I was not able to understand it but
with the help of a few example that he gives us helps me to atleast understand it .
