Title: Module 1 - Review of Addition and Subtraction Strategies

Original Engaging Learning Activity:

1. The teacher will hook the students by showing them the Brainpop Jr Addition with
Regrouping video
2. The teacher will begin by using the iReady textbook to introduce the strategies for
addition and subtraction with regrouping.
3. Begin by using the base ten block strategy to review addition and subtraction with
regrouping.
4. Teach the standard algorithm (also known as stacking) for addition and subtraction with
regrouping.
5. Have students solve a problem showing both strategies. Students will then share their
solution with a partner. After using the think-pair-share strategy with a partner, the
teacher will choose a few students to share with the class.
6. Students will then work with a partner to solve a few more problems. After they are done,
students will self check the answers using an answer key.
7. Students will complete a ticket out of the door on a piece of paper as a formative
assessment before moving to small groups.
8. During small groups, students will complete a review page, fact fluency flash cards, and
a math board game.

Objectives:

1. Add three digit numbers with and without regrouping.

2. Subtract three digit numbers with and without regrouping.

TPACK:

Content Knowledge - For this lesson, the teacher will need to understand the basic rules for
addition and subtraction.

Pedagogical Knowledge - The teacher will need to understand how to teach the content using
base ten blocks and the standard algorithm.

Technological Knowledge - For this lesson, the teacher will use Brainpop Jr, the iReady online
platform, and Google applications.

Lesson Plan after TPACK Application:

1. Students will login to their Google Classroom to view the following Brainpop Jr Videos:
Addition with Regrouping and Subtraction with Regrouping. Students will answer the
interactive quiz questions at the end of the video.
2. The teacher will use the iReady Powerpoint for the lesson to guide students through the
book lesson as students follow along. The teacher will review the base ten block strategy
and the standard algorithm.
3. Students will use the online base ten blocks in Google Classroom to practice solving
using the base ten block strategy. Students will share their answers with a partner using
the think-pair-share strategy.
4. The teacher will display a problem and have students use their choice of the base ten
block strategy or the standard algorithm to solve. Students will then explain their answer
to a partner. The teacher will call on a few students to share with the class.
5. Students will then work with a partner to complete a Google Slides review activity. The
review activity will include problems that students must show their answers using the
base ten strategy and the standard algorithm. Students will turn in this activity in Google
Classroom.
6. Students will complete a Google Form as a ticket out of the door for the teacher to use
as a formative assessment. After completing the activity, students will break into small
groups.
7. During small groups, students will complete an interactive iReady lesson on the iReady
online platform, complete fact fluency on Xtra Math website, and play math learning
games on iReady.

Explanation of TPACK Framework:

The TPACK framework will allow the teacher to engage students in the online learning
environment while using the most appropriate online tools and technology for the lesson. A
variety of digital learning tools are available for teachers to use during this lesson. The most
appropriate for this lesson are Google applications, Brainpop Jr videos, and the iReady online
learning tools. The Google applications are mostly used for students to practice the content. The
Brainpop Jr videos are used to introduce the students to the content at a basic level and allow
students to quiz themselves on the content. The iReady learning platform is used to provide
extra practice, learning games, and teacher guided lessons. The students learn best when they
are actively engaged in the lesson. The online tools provide students with this opportunity. The
instructional strategies needed to teach students effectively are small groups and direct
instruction. Students will be given the whole group lesson through direct instruction and then
practice what was taught during the lesson in small groups.
Module 2- Review of Multiplication and Division Strategies

Original Learning Activity

1. The teacher will hook the students by watching a video on youtube kids about
multiplication and division strategies
2. The teacher will use Google Slides and the IReady textbook to introduce the strategies
for multiplication and division problems. The teacher will model strategies such as equal
groups and arrays.
3. Start with teaching multiplication strategies using equal groups and arrays
4. Teach division strategies such as equal groups and arrays.
5. Students will complete a practice problem with the teacher.
6. Students will complete a practice problem. They will share their strategy with a
classmate.
7. Students will complete one more problem on a piece of paper. This will be a check for
understanding.
8. In small groups, students will complete a review activity, flash cards, and a math game.

Objectives
1. Multiply single digit numbers with a product up to 144 using strategies such as equal
groups and arrays.
2. Divide numbers within 100 to find the quotient using strategies such as equal groups and
arrays.

TPACK-
Content Knowledge-For this lesson, the teacher will need to understand the basic rules and
steps of multiplication and division.

Pedagogical Knowledge- For this lesson, the teacher will need to understand how to teach
these operations using the array and equal groups strategies.

Technological Knowledge- For this lesson, the teacher will use virtual manipulatives, google
classroom, and IReady.

Lesson Plan after TPACK application

1. Students will log into their google classroom and watch an assigned video on
multiplication and division strategies. Students will write one thing they learned from the
video in a google form.
2. The teacher will use the IReady program to guide students through the lesson on
multiplication and division strategies. The students will follow along using their Iready
book. The teacher will review using the array and grouping strategies to multiply and
divide.
3. Students will go back into google classroom and solve a problem. They will use the
counters from DiDax.com to use arrays and groups to solve multiplication and division
problems.
4. The teacher will display one problem for students to solve independently using the virtual
manipulatives. Students will share their strategy with a partner.
5. Students will work on one more google slide activity. They will record a flipgrid
discussing how they solved the problem.
6. Students will complete a problem on google form as a formative assessment.
