RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research Design
The study utilized a descriptive-correlational research to find the relationship of the respondents’
environmental awareness and environmental practices through the survey-questionnaire.
Research Locale
This study will be conducted in Miglamin National High School of school year 2022-2023. Miglamin
National High School is located at Purok 4-Miglamin Malaybalay City Bukidnon.
79 SHS students will be chosen to become the respondents of the study. SHS students are chosen to be
the respondents of this study because as what the researchers has observed the SHS students in the said school
are has the need to learn how their choices and actions affect the environment, how to address complex
environmental problems, and what students can do to maintain a healthy and sustainable environment in the
future.
In order to acquire correct data and information, survey questionnaires were used to collect data. The
researchers used the questioners from the prior study. In the level of environmental awareness of the students
the participants will choose on a likert scale ranging from fully aware, aware, neither aware or not aware, not
aware, to fully not aware. Fully aware which means the respondent possesses proficiency and knowledge on the
issue. Aware means the respondent can adequately understand the issue. Neither Aware or Not Aware means
the respondent can understand some aspects of the issue. Not Aware, the respondent can understand the issue
only with the guidance of the experts. Fully Not Aware, the respondent can hardly understand the issue even
with guidance from the experts. In the level of environmental practices of the students the participant will
choose on a likert scale ranging from always, often, sometimes, seldom, to never. Always means it is highly
utilized. Often means moderately utilized. Sometimes means slightly utilized. Seldom means utilized. Never
means Not utilized. The questionnaires provide statistical data. This means that it provides a variety of possible
responses from which participants can choose based on their own judgment.
Study Instrument
In order to gather the data on the environmental awareness and practices among the Grade 11 and 12
students, the researchers will use a survey questionnaire adapted from (Rogayan, 2019). The instrument
measured the level of students’ environmental awareness and practices. It consists of two part. Respondents
level of environmental awareness (Part 1), Respondents level of environmental practices (Part 2).
The interpretation of the data that will be collected in (Part 1) will be interpreted as shown in the table
below.
The interpretation of the data that will be collected in (Part 2) will be interpreted as shown in table
below.
The researchers will get the approval from the school principal to conduct the study. Upon approval,
survey-questionnaires will be distributed to the respondents. The respondents will be given 10 to 15 minutes to
respond and then the researchers will collect all the accomplished survey questionnaires on the same day.
Selected respondents will be asked for a focus group discussion (FGD) to validate the findings obtained from
the survey questionnaires. The researchers will be also conducting a participant observation and documentary
analysis on the environmental practices of students.
Sample method
Random sampling method will be used, the sample are 79 senior high school students from Miglamin
NHS.
Statistical method
The level of environmental awareness and practices scores will be calculated for the various subsamples
and evaluate the means and standard deviations.
The scores of the significant difference between environmental awareness of the students and their
environmental practices will be using the Pearson product-movement correlation coefficient, also referred to as
Pearson’s r, will be used to determine if the two variables have connection. Correlation coefficients are typically
determined for two variables at a time. The researchers will utilize statistical analyses in order to obtain valid
results from the participants’ responses.
