1. A 440V shunt motor has an armature resistance of 0.8 ohms and a field resistance of 200 ohms. Determine the back EMF
when giving one output of 7.46 KW @ 85% efficiency.

2. A 25KW, 250V dc shunt generator has an armature and field resistance of 0.06 ohms and 100 ohms respectively. Determine the
total armature power develop when working:
a. As a generator delivering 25KW
b. As a motor taking 25KW

3. A 250V, 4 pole wave wound series motor has 782 conductors on its armature. It has armature and series field resistance of 0.75
ohms and the motor takes a current of 40A. estimate its speed and gross torque develop. If it has a flux per pole of 25mWb.

4. A 500V, 37.3 KW, 100 rpm dc shunt motor has a FL efficiency of 90%. The armature circuit resistance is 0.24 ohms and there is a
total voltage drop of 2V @ the brushes. The field current is 1.8A. determine the FL line current, FL shaft torque, motor star ter
resistance to limit starting current 1.5 times the FL current.

5. A 120 V shunt dynamo has an armature equipment of 0.5 ohms and a field resistance of 60 ohms at FL, the dynamo takes 10 A and
the speed is 1000 rpm. At what speed must this dynamo maybe driven as dynamo to delivers 10 A to a external load @ 120 V.

6. A dc shunt motor has a FL rating of 15hp, 230V, 57.1A, and 1400 rpm. The armature circuit resistance is 0.13Ω and the
field circuit resistance is 115Ω. Neglecting the effect of armature reaction, determine the no load line current. What will be
the speed at No Load?

7. A belt driven 150 KW dc generators is running 450 rpm and is supplying full load to a bus bar @ 240 V. At what speed will it run if the
belt breaks and the machine continue to run taking 8.5 KW from the bus bar? The field armature and the field resistances are 0.05
ohms and 85 ohms respectively. The brush contact drop is 1.5 V per brush. Neglect armature resistance.

8. A 220V shunt motor delivers 40hp on full load at 950 rpm and has an efficiency of 88%. The armature and field resistances are 0.2Ω
and 110Ω respectively. Determine the Rst such that the armature current does not exceed 1.6 times the full load current.

9. A 10hp, 220V dc shunt motor has an armature and field resistances of 0.25Ω and 100Ω respectively. The FL efficiency is 83%.
Determine the value of starting resistance in order that the starting current will not exceed 200% of full load value.

10. A 500V shunt motor running @ 720 rpm takes an armature current of 50A. The equivalent armature resistance is 0.4Ω. What
resistance must be placed in series with the armature to reduce the speed to 540 rpm while maintaining the same torque?

11. The equivalent armature and field resistance of a series motor is 0.1Ω. When it is connected across 110V mains, the armature
takes 20A and its speed is 1000rpm. Determine the speed of the armature takes 50A from the same mains, with the field
increase by 10%.

12. A 400V series motor has a field resistance of 0.2Ω and an armature resistance of 0.1Ω. The motor takes 30A of current at 1000
rpm while developing full load torque. What is the motor speed when this motor develops 60% of full load torque?

respectively. What will be its speed when developing half-full load torque and with 0.8Ω diverter connected across the series field
winding. Assume flux is proportional to the field current.

14. The field and armature resistances of 220V series motor are 0.2Ω and 0.1Ω respectively. The motor takes 30A of current while
running @ 700 rpm. If the total iron and friction losses are 350W, determine the motor efficiency.

15. A 100V series motor is used to drive a load through a pulley. This machine has an armature resistance of 0.2Ω and series field
of 0.25Ω. When a torque of 25 N-m is applied to a pulley, the speed is 1600 rpm. If SPL=350W, calculate Ia.

16. A 460V series motor runs 500 rpm taking a current of 40A. Calculate the speed and percentage change in torque if the total lo ad is
reduced so that the motor is taking 30A. Total resistance of the armature and field circuit is 0.8Ω.

17. A series motor operates @ 800 rpm with the line current of 100A from 230V main. Its armature circuit resistance is 0.15Ω and its
field resistance is 0.1Ω. Find the speed at which the motor runs at a line current 0f 25A. Assuming that the flux is reduced by 55%.

18. A 500V dc motor takes a current of 5a @ NL. The resistance of the armature and field in the circuit are 0.22Ω and 250Ω
respectively. Find:
a. Efficiency when the load taking a current of 100A.
b. Percentage change in speed.

20. A 10hp, 250V shunt motor takes a current of 5A when running light. If the Ra=0.5Ω, and Rf=250Ω, what is the maximum
efficiency of the motor?
