FISHBONE MAP

Fishbone Map - is used to better understand the causal relationship of a


complex phenomenon. It shows the factors that cause a specific event or
problem, as well as details of each cause.
 It is named Fishbone Map due to its resemblance to fishbone
skeleton.
 It is also called the cause and effect diagram and also known as
Ishikawa Diagram. It is called Ishikiwa Diagram because it was
created by Kaoru Ishikawa.
- Kaoru Ishikawa is a Japanese theorist and professor in University of
Tokyo.
 Fishbone map is the best tool to visualize all the potential causes of a
problem in order to find its root causes.
 The use of this map is to find or identify the posible causes of a
problem or an effect.

FORMAT:
 The problem or the effects is written in the head of the Fishbone
Map.
 The cause category is written above and under the slant line.
 The key categories or the specific causes of the problem is written in
the rootlike stucture of the map.
STEPS IN MAKING A FISHBONE MAP:
1. Define the problem or the effects
2. Decide on the cause categories
3. Determine the actual or specific causes of the problem
